Say It Isn’t So – Fort Minor Concert

2 songs – Believe Me and Where’d You Go, were the axiomatic highlights of what I felt was a corking gig. Fort Minor did a couple of Linkin Park renditions. It was supposed to start at 8pm, so I immediately hotfooted after work. The venue was only minutes away from my office (Thank God!).

We steamrolled into Gate 2 of the Kiara Equestrian Club. Parking was not too herculean, though we had to park along the trunk road that extends to Hartamas. It was approximately 1km away from the entranceway of the Equestrian club, the venue for Fort Minor’s shindig.

I observed that something was amiss when I saw loads of adolescents vagabonding around. Yikes! This concert was opened to all who do not wear diapers! The youngest one I saw was probably 12 years of age. So, it was not much of an outrage (it was an outrage nevertheless) when Bren and I found out that they do not dish out any alcohol! The only piteous drink available was Red Bull (one of the sponsors), which I thought was a load of Bull!

We were banqueting our eyes on some picturesque women and we couldn’t help feeling like paedophiles! Hahahaha! The average age was approx 16 years. A good number of them would in no doubt be dazzlingly beautiful in the coming years. I feel so contaminated. Hahaha!

I believe the turnout was around 2500. It took Fort Minor a while to get on stage – they only started the gig after 9pm and ended before 10:30pm. Free standing – we were some 10 metres away from the stage, so we wangled to bestride the fun bandwagon. What I find contemptible is the group behind (way yonder) who took up seats and sat throughout whole concert – your life must be an absolute disgrace. Good luck with it though.

The first 20 minutes of the gig was foreign, as obviously the band’s still unweathered and we only knew 2 songs. Mike Shinoda chipped in some teasers in the form of Linkin Park’s In The End and the remix version of Numb during the show. They were laudable in their travails to woo the crowd. One setup worth mentioned was the 3 black dudes who look like hoodlums on the stage – 2 were playing the VIOLINS and 1 with a DOUBLE BASS! That was a funny sight to behold!

When they came back for the 2nd set (10 minute interval), they turn up the heat, and had the crowd jumping like monkeys who have not eaten banana in 2 years! When I first heard the CD (amen to music piracy!) in December ‘05 (see previous post on my friendster blog), the song that I savored the most was “WHERE’D YOU GO”, and I consequently omened that this would be a bigger hit than their current “BELIEVE ME”. All in all, it was a gig that I rank as 7/10, would’ve been higher, no thanks to their sponsorship policy to allow tiddlers to join in the fun. No beer served was a shamble too.

I was glad that it ended at 10:15pm, not because it was an unsound concert, but because my time is beetling off. I had until midnight to consume as much liquor as I can. I already had chocolates earlier in the day and had a really succulent black pepper steak at the Supper Club in PJ New Town with some colleagues. Too late to look for sex (one of the 4 things I’m giving up for Lent) LOL! So, we manoeuvered to our 2nd home, Bojangles in Hartamas for a couple of drinks – me, Bren, Al, Dermo and Shahbab.

The place was lifeless when we got there. So, we adjourned to the Olde Tavern across the street, not for the music (as it was lifeless too), cause they served KILKENNY. OLE!! I started with a pint of Guiness Stout followed by another and by another and then a pint of Kikenny and a cocktail called Rainbow and a Black Russian, 3 minutes before the stroke of midnight. I gobbled up the alcohol in the space of 1 hour and 15 minutes.

We concluded the night at 1am, as I needed to work the next day, but not until we consumed some food first, and the steamboat-on-wheels was just a stone’s throw away. I couldn’t binge anything served except for greens. Alas, I found something that I actually “relished” – TOFU. Why do I senselessly put myself through 40 days of abstinence? I think I’m losing my mind! LOL!

It’s Ash Wednesday today – No Meat, No Alcohol, No Chocolates and No Sex for the next 4o days, i.e. until 16th April 2006 – Easter Sunday! *FINGERS CROSSED* I can do this..I can do this..
