I reluctantly watched this movie at my best friend’s home in Seoul last September, and was pleasantly astounded. Loved Part 1 but Part 2 was kinda ho-hum, nevertheless, it was a great flick. With son of Krypton returning to the big screen after God-knows-how-many-years, I shall make it a crusade to cite him whenever necessary.
Here’s a timeless quote about SUPERMAN from KILL BILL:
“An essential characteristic of the superhero mythology is, there’s the superhero, and there’s the alter ego. Batman is actually Bruce Wayne, Spider-Man is actually Peter Parker. When he wakes up in the morning, he’s Peter Parker. He has to put on a costume to become Spider-Man.
And it is in that characteristic that Superman stands alone. Superman did not become Superman, Superman was born Superman. When Superman wakes up in the morning, he’s Superman. His alter ego is Clark Kent. His outfit with the big red “S”, that’s the blanket he was wrapped in as a baby when the Kents found him. Those are his clothes. What Kent wears, the glasses, the business suit, that’s the costume. That’s the costume Superman wears to blend in with us. Clark Kent is how Superman views us. And what are the characteristics of Clark Kent? He’s weak, he’s unsure of himself… he’s a coward. Clark Kent is Superman’s critique on the whole human race.”
Come 30th June 2006, I hope the movie lives up to its foretastes. I will be getting GOLD CLASS seats to watch this film. I don’t know whether Brandon Routh can outshine Christopher Reeve, I hope he doesn’t so Christopher Reeve will perennate in memory. I hope Routh brings a different character (just like what Tobey Macguire did to Spidey, my second favorite superhero). The director’s kinda gimpy though - Bryan Singer, the tosser who directed the first 2 pathetic X-Men movies. Hope he doesn’t bonk this up. FYI - I’m skipping X-MEN 3, and I think you should if you have a brain (only applicable to non-Manure Utd supporters).
