If you could see yourself like others do, you’d wish you were as beautiful as you. Jon Bon Jovi’s second solo album, the critically acclaimed Destination Anywhere (1997), sees him departing from the signature Bon Jovi brand of rock music. Dave Stewart of Eurythmics & Aldo Nova played guitar on the record, as well as producing some of the tracks.
A short movie of the same name was recorded right around the record’s release, based entirely on the songs from the record and starring Jon Bon Jovi, Demi Moore, Kevin Bacon and Whoopi Goldberg. This is one of my favorite songs on the album, it’s about us feeling ugly, but others see us as beautiful souls.
JON BON JOVI - UGLY
If you’re ugly, I’m ugly too
In your eyes the sky’s a different blue
If you could see yourself like others do
You’d wish you were as beautiful as youAnd I wish I was a camera sometimes
So, I could take your picture with my mind
Put it in a frame for you to see
How beautiful you really are to me
Ugly, Ugly
All of us just feel like that somedays
Ain’t no rainbow in the sky
When you feel U.G.L.Y.
And that’s ugly, yeah, yeah, yeah
All of us just feel like that somedays
Ain’t no cure that you can buy
When you feel U.G.L.Y.
And that’s ugly
So, if you’re ugly, I’m ugly too
If you’re a nut, then I must be a screw
If you could see yourself the way I do
You’d wish you were as beautiful as you
I wish I was as beautiful as you

nice lyrics, but not a very nice song, in my opinion. I still prefer Bon Jovi go “THANK KKYOU, FOR LOVING ME EEE EE EE”

Joash Fair enough. But I’m not a fan of “Thank You For Loving Me”. Too inferior for my liking, and perhaps they made that tune to entice a different crowd, people like you.

Sha Yes, a much better song than “Thank you…”.

Gallivanter : My copy of Bat-3 is here. Verdict? It is not bad but takes getting used to, especially the seven non-Steinman songs. Very edgy, and no longer 30 words per sentence. The seven Steinman songs, however, I can relate to. Not as good as Bat-1 and Bat-2, but I can live with it. Now onto Bat-4!

Wombat Yes, it does take getting used to. Why don’t you review it on your blog?
Will there be a Bat-4?

I will put up the review after I have run through the CD a few rounds first. Don’t want to miss out on anything.
Although both JS and ML said there will never be a Bat-4, who knows? JS may just do one 5 years later (can’t do it 10m years later cos Meat will be 59 then) to close the show.

bon jovi’s “the sky’s a different blue” line is too familliar, man.
as for bat-4, well, it is a possibility la. when bat-2 came out they said there wasn’t going to be a bat-3 (except for that one leftover song), but then a decade later we see it anyway. tapi itu jim steinman punya gaduh with jim steinman is still currently lukewarm… which was why i found meatloaf’s dedication at the end of the bat-3 CD cover ironic. if they could collaborate again, it would be sweet.

Wombat Okay, give me a holler once you’ve done it so I’ll drop by…
philters It is? Nothing comes to mind? Something older than this song or newer? Jim Steinman has a twin brother?

the very words ‘in(to) your eyes, the sky’s a different blue’ appears in both u.g.l.y and thank you for loving me
