He delivered a blindsiding retort to a bartender who asks if he wants his martini shaken or stirred. “Do I look like I give a damn?”
Well well well, at last, a James Bond with bloody balls (in every sense of the word). Finally, they moved away from sissiness and metrosexual horseshit that has blighted all previous James Bond flicks. Daniel Craig makes Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Lazenby, Pierce Brosnan (except Sean Connery) look like pansies. All the previous 20 Bond flicks are the SOUND OF MUSIC compared to Casino Royale. Yes, if you have common sense, it’s obvious that I enjoyed it.
No OTT gadgetry for you dweebs, no ludicrous stunts. Pure brawniness and believably human. This James Bond is brutal. I LIKE. Easily my favorite James Bond flick. The only “downside” was this 007 kinda lacks the personality and charm as his previous predecessors - GOOD RIDDANCE I SAY! All previous James Bond depicted some form of queerness about them. And Eva Green, a hottie in her own right, puts to shame all that stupid sexual connotations of previous Bond girls.
Like everyone, I was apprehensive at first when I saw the bond trailer a few months ago. The crummy look at the actor’s face painted a grim outlook that it’ll be more malodorous than durians! The intro starts as anticipated, with potential bad acting ahead, but as it (2.5 hours) wore on, we were all heralding the manliness of this Bond. 7.5/10.
The theme song, “You Know My Name”, performed by Chris Cornell (Soundgarden/Audioslave), is bond-worthy material. Thank God they didn’t give it to boring flatus bands like Coldplay.

I thought the new Bond was too Blond… my writer friends said the movie was good but didn’t have a lasting impression and Daniel Craig did try hard on his acting!

Lex Yes, it doesn’t have a lasting impression, but which Bond movie HAD it in the first place?
It’ll take a while to get used to this brash version of 007.

endroo G Well, I can’t help it if people prefer the pansy versions of Bond.
Critics enjoyed the film, and so did my colleagues and I. Go watch it first.

it sucks. try imagine f**king bloke that looks like a plank trying to be heroic. previous bonds might be pansy, but they sure as hell could act and sure as hell didn’t look like a plank.
oh, maybe the romance scene got into you instead of the high explosion mind blowing james bond. as far as i’m concerned, this bond is more pansy and emo (which didn’t show due to a 1-expression-throughout-oh-i’msof**kingplanklooking-actor) cause he fell in love. some people like to be in loooove. not my james bond though.
forgive me if i’m wrong. have a nice day.

Liew Dude, Bond is previously from the British SAS. They’re not supposed to be pansies. Longing for love doesn’t make someone a pansy, but ordering shaken-not-stirred vodka martinis is otherwise!
November 19th, 2006 at 8:35am
really?
longing for love is the first requirement of the pansy club! ahhaha

Top review man.
Overall a good show by Daniel Craig. The part that killed me though was when Bond told Le Chiffe that he had an itch.
Must watch indeed.

Liew You can’t seem to differentiate what makes one pansy. If love if pansy, you need to seek professional help dude.
wombok It was a pleasant surprise indeed. Yes, that part was THE highlight of the movie. Check out the other reviews here. There’s hope for the James Bond franchise after Sean Connery. Cheers.

Liew, you should go watch Happy feet.
November 20th, 2006 at 7:46am
hongkiat: maybe i will, indeed.
November 20th, 2006 at 9:36am
Sha It’s certainly brutal.
hongkiat It was a kickass movie wasn’t it? Don’t worry, I won’t watch Covenant, perhaps we could get Liew to review it.
Liew As it is you can’t differentiate what’s pansy or not, now you can’t even distinguish sarcasm by hongkiat. LOL

The movie was excellent; it’s exactly how a prequel should be. It explains why Bond is emotionally unattached to women. I just hated the shameless product placements. Like the Omega watch. All phones are Sony Ericson. Almost all cars are from Ford etc…

Definetly have to go watch it and thanks for the spoiler free review. If you guys get a chance go see Borat - one scene is the funniest thing i have seen in a long time but oh-so-wrong!
November 20th, 2006 at 12:28pm
chel My first memorable James Bond movie outing. Product placements are a queasy trend these days. Thankfully no OTT gadgets, and I’m glad that they kept it REAL.
Mr D No problemo. Just a point-blank review after oppressing all frustrations of the previous Bonds…I think Borat is banned in Malaysia, so have to wait for the DVD.

Just caught the movie tonight, and I’d have to agree with every single thing that you say. I initially thought the theme song was sung by Coldplay (I seriously need to wax my ears) but then I remembered it was Chris Cornell.. so that made me stop cringing. I am really loving the death of metrosexual Bonds with this movie. Loved it. Not sure if it’s in my Top 5 movies of the year (nothing beats The Prestige), but certainly one of the better ones I’ve seen this year.
And yes, avoid the Covenant at all costs. This might be a minor spoiler to the movie so edit it out if you have to but….
*** covenant spoiler ***
the sacriest thing about the movie is the possibility that there will be a sequel *shudder*

Izad High five! Next up I’m looking forward to is Frank Miller’s 300!
Don’t worry, I’m skipping Covenant.
