I believe, just about all of us, at some point or another, masqueraded under a pseudonym, to either conserve anonymity, or to depict one’s character/mood. How many pseudonyms have you previously used? Here are my list of pseudonyms.

It all started with MIRC and GEOCITIES chat (circa 96/97). I went under the pseudonym of Opium(DEF). It caused some argy-bargy as it sounded drug-related. I wanted it to indicate you will get high once you knew me. Gimpy I know. LOL.

And then, I switched pseudonym, as a tribute to my favorite metal band back then, DIO. I went with Holy Diver. Even had a huge sticker on my car, a 1975 Toyota KE-20 that I drove to college in 1997/98, and without fail, it has failed me many times. Once the dashboard glass shattered out of the blue, while I was driving to college. Hahahaha!

I can’t remember when I swopped it for Fallen Angel. I think it was at that time when I had my first heartbreak, that my relationship with the girl who inspired me to write songs didn’t work out.

Fast forward to the present, I chanced upon blogging through a feeble blogging software, introduced by Friendster. It was my home for a month or so before I marched on to blogger last January 2006. And my pseudonym was born - Gallivanter. I wanted something to describe my gallivanting mood. A life-appreciating vagabonding adventure in search of pleasure. :-)

How many pseudonyms did you have?

  1. for fear of being laffed at, I’ll never reveal :)

  2. tihtahpah Come on, I’ve always laughed at you, one more wouldn’t hurt (me). Hahaha! ;-)

  3. Would you like to suggest one for me? :P

  4. in the days of MIRC, i went by ‘casey’ because in school, EVERYONE were on those wicked chatboards and i did not want to be known, thus the unisex nick.

‘magic’ was born in university years because of the controversy my name caused. it stuck on so hard, that everyone knows me by that. it is no longer a nick, but a name.

so when blogging became the next black, i choose ‘philters’ because if i put ‘magic’ up there, everyone in school, in uni, at work and generally people who know me would recognise me.
    :D

  5. I started using gercon8 from 1997 and i still do for all forums that i have joined. Then galivanter here introducted me to blogger. Thats whe i started using pixelatedmo. some of my friends call me ‘G’ but majority of then call me ‘Mo’. although i never really liked it, it kinda grew on me…

  6. Jemima Don’t you like Jemima? Would’ve suggested Eudaemon but it rhymed with the ever-yucky Doraemon. :-P
philters I kinda feel odd calling you Philters/Magic in person. Can I call you Miss Chomsky instead? ;-)
Mo Mo’s not too bad, always reminds me of that barman in Simpsons. Better Mo than Apu. Haha! :-D

  7. CIS!!! :P

  8. LOL…oh Daniel, I remember your toyota…I remember we were in it…and suddenly it broke down. But that car sure hauled you around even if it was stubborn about it. :P

Pseudonyms…ok … my very first one in Malaysia was “Creamy.” This was when I discovered chatting and I thought I will reveal that I had a very soft and smooth nature but in the end, it turned into a sexual inuendo. So much for that.

When I was in the US, I had “Working Diva.” I thought, I was training to be a working girl but I was flashy like a Diva because I like to dress up all hot and sassy.

I got back to Korea and this was after a long journey of finding myself. I was trying to think of one and I chose Soulfulsynergy. This is to represent that a person’s soul is a synergy of different kinds of energy. I am really into the condition of your Soul.

:) I remember Fallen Angel. Who would have thought that underneath all the dark exterior you actually have white fluffy wings of a real angel. :)

  9. Fallen Angel reminds me of the story about this Bishop who stood at the entrance of the church after the service, shaking hands with parishioners who were leaving. Out came Mother Superior and her nuns, but she tripped…and luckily, the Bishop was able to catch her as she fell. “My,” he remarked,” this is the 1st time I’ve caught a fallen angel in my arms!” Mother Superior stood up and retorted, “And that’s the 1st time I’ve been picked up by a Bishop!” LOL!!!

  10. Jemima Right back at ya! :-D
Rudy That car gave me some wonderful memories although it was falling apart every week. LOL. At least I had the sound system hooked up. ;-) I remember all 3 of your pseudonyms. Man, I AM your best friend! Hahahaha! Eh, mana ada white fluffy wings? :-P
    suituapui Err…hahahaha? :-P

  11. One. Just one nick ever since I hooked on to the Net in 1994. Just one.

Now why would The Wombat need more than one nick? :-)

  12. no, please. magic will do.

  13. Wombat A burrowing herbivorous Australian marsupial? Kudos to you to sticking to ONE nick for the last X years. ;-)

philters Errr, okay Ms Magic. :-P

  14. About two before I got happily stuck with shanobyl :P

  15. Wombat: you posts in Kommies early of this decade were good. They archived your posts right? I think many people there changed their nick over the years…

Galli: Me started with froi, then froi2k, then chocolatemac, then endroo and the the current one, endroo G. Oh btw, thats a car windscreen. Sorry, i just can’t help correcting you. ;)
tihtahpah: hey come on…. dont let me guess ur nick… “tidak-apa’?

  16. endroo : The younger ones tend to change nicks more often. Fashionable, I suppose. They actually archived my posts? Where? Where?

  17. Sha A unique pseudonym indeed. ;-)

endroo G Yeah man, you’re right about the windshield. Do keep correcting me, but not grammatically or spelling errors please…one linguist friend is enough…hehehehe! :-P

Wombat It’s not really about fashion, it’s more about reflecting the current lifecycle the person is in. :-D

  18. Galli: oh no no… just because its a parts of a car.. therefore i’m a bit carried by it. You know my job. Btw, its nice to have a linguist around to correct us. I’m no linguist.
