As always, I got my hands on some Oscar-nominated flicks (except Home of the Brave). Here are my thoughts (no spoilers).
THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND
I know who my favorite is to win the best actor for the OSCARS. FOREST WHITAKER. I watched Last King of Scotland during the weekend, and his performance magnates through this savage tale of power and corruption. Highly recommended for the acting of Forest Whitaker alone. He is completely full of appealingness and outrageous sense of humor, making Whitaker’s character an egressing barbarism spine-chilling as hell. 7.5/10
DREAMGIRLS
One name. Beyonce. Is she fu-gorgeous or is she fu-gorgeous? Cast include Jamie Foxx, Beyonce, Jennifer Hudson and Eddie Murphy. It’s a story about how music can sell its soul to greed. Dreamgirls is a beautiful tragedy. Potentially bedazing, but it failed to interlock together. Instead, it’s a series of phenomenal vocal performances. But, Dreamgirls is hardly a movie and more of an endless stage play full of incessant musical collages. 6/10
HOME OF THE BRAVE
Home of the Brave sets forth with pandemonium and underlying uncertainty in the Iraq war. Critics scorned this film, mainly because it discloses the fragility of war that impacts American soldiers. Yanks don’t want to be seen as wuss to the world. Hence, they criticised this film. I on the other hand, thorougly relished it. No mumbo jumbo of OTT American patriotism hoopla. It shows how soldiers, who have been spending their lives in a war zone for sometime, return home, trying to adjust to being normal again. “BUCK FUSH!” 8/10

The Last King of Scotland was spine-chillingly good. FW was excellent in the role; he made you look forward to every scene he was in, and that’s a clear sign of how good his performance was. I have read about 3 books on the atrocities of Idi Amin, and if you know the background, seeing the characterisation of him on screen (at times masked in benevolence) if really frightening.
He has thus far won the BAFTA, Screen Actors’ Guild and Golden Globe for Best Actor. His acceptance speeches were crap tho!

Che-Cheh It’s already available on DVD.
And not cinema-copy. Go watch his performance.
Keropok His portrayal was sensational, definitely Oscar-worthy. I have heard about Amin beforehand. Whitaker for the Oscar!

tihtahpah You’re sort of missing the point, we men, LOVE Beyonce, not for her singing/acting skills.
Jamie Foxx was okay in this one, to me, it was Jennifer Hudson, and to an extent, Eddie Murphy, who stole the limelight.
