Kenyir Resort

Warning: My longest entry. Have you ever been spooked before? Not by other humans I mean, by ghostly matters. I think most of us had our fair share of encounters, and I’m sure most of them are just our minds playing tricks on us.

I never believed in unworldly matters. Yes yes, I’m a man of science. :-P But, that all changed in June 2004, when my family and relatives drove all the way to Tasik Kenyir for a couple of nights retreat. Together with my then-girlfriend, I joined them a day later, as I stayed a night in Kuantan at her parents place beforehand.

We arrived in the evening, after driving up some old road, ladened with monitor lizards (live and dead) the population of Singapore that it was not funny. Parked our cars, and walked to the chalets. My mom specifically requested for the most secluded chalets, furthest from the clubhouse, as there were more than 15 of us.

Chalets

So, they gave us 5 chalets at the end of the road, facing the eerie lake. As I was walking to my chalet with my girlfriend around 5-ish in the evening, I noticed the bushes on my right were moving, as if something was moving right next to me. I stopped. It stopped. I walked, and the bushes parted again. Yes, it PARTED, as though someone was walking through it. I had GOOSEBUMPS the size of China. Yet I didn’t tell anyone, because….I’m a man of science. :-P I was taking some photographs overlooking the eerily quiet lake. And I caught some interesting photos, to which, at that time, in fear, we thought the worse. Thinking about it again, I guess we were spooked into believing the photos. However…

Kenyir Vision

Vision

The second day, half of my relatives decided to split the scene (a good number of us experienced IT one way or another but I didn’t, not on the first night). However, I didn’t believe them, until it happen to me again. This time, I stayed in the chalet overlooking the lake, and shared the bed with my girlfriend and my cousin sister at that time.

I was soundly asleep, until I felt something grabbing and pinching my arms. So I opened my eyes, and I realized it was my girlfriend, but that was not the shocking bit, to my horror, the bed was shaking! “Something” was moving on the bed, while the 3 of us were ON the bed SLEEPING. Immediately, in a state of panic, I woke up, made some noises, walked over to the toilet and turned the bathroom lights on. It stopped. We waited for 15 minutes or so, and I got so sleepy, so I turned the lights out much to my cousin’s and girlfriend’s protest to leave it on. I only sleep when it’s fully dark you see. ZERO light. Got into bed, my girlfriend hugged me as I felt her cold trembling hands. And barely 10 minutes, behind me, the bed was “pushed in”, like someone was sitting next to me. So, to follow the curiosity process depicted in horror films, I turned around.

Nothing. Then just as I was about to close my eyes, it released a heavy breath on my pillow, sort of an angry sigh. Goosebumps. Woke up again, made noises, turn on the bathroom lights and tried to sleep.

The next morning, we congregated at my mom’s suite, the best of the chalets, for breakfast. It was quieter than usual. Then I noticed my mom looking shaken up. So like any loving son, I asked. Apparently, last night, my mom, in a bid to be the perfect guest, went around the other chalets to check on everyone, and also wanted an extra pillow. Like some hero, she wandered around, this was just after midnight, some half-an-hour after we said our goodnights. On the way back to her chalet, something forcefully turned her around and pinned her to the door with the pillow. And she said she was too stunned to scream. But somehow managed to knock the door with her elbow, and my stepdad answered and she fell straight into his arms.

There were other stories from my uncles, aunties and their kids, each relating their encounter, but I brushed them aside, because I figured they all wanted their share of the limelight. We were so relieved to be leaving home that day. Then we checked with the locals and the lobby about the chalets, and told them of our encounters. And they said they were aware about it, and that chalet has been vacant for 9 months! But because my mom insisted, they gave it to us.

This holiday has changed my man of science status to man of spook. Take a look at this photo (click to enlarge) and tell me what you think.

Day Sightings

Still, I am planning to go there again someday, but this time, with a bunch of blokes, pansies or otherwise, to investigate. Now, who’s with me?

  1. I’m with you Dan. I’m a curious man of science too.
Hey, do you remember reading that story I told about my younger sister? I posted it in some blog… You want to share it with your other readers?

  2. I got a story that invloves my dad’s cousin and possession. I should discuss that. But i shall join the band of pansies and go along.

  3. Keropok Oh yes, I remember the story, what’s the link again? I’ll link it through this entry…

Mr D Yes, it changed my perspective…as much as I tried to be logical about it. I will go back there one day, it’s the traveling time that’s turning me off.

  4. I got stories too, you know them Dan. There is a reason why my heart irrationally starts palpitating when I am in complete darkness. I am such a pansy…and I don’t think I will be able to handle a trip like that. It might change me.

  5. They are everywhere Dan, …. everywhere… as you know Dan, i have alot of hair raising stories…

if its not too expensive, i dont mind coming along…

  6. Rudy Yes, I know them. Definitely not for you. ;-)
Mo Yes, they’re everywhere, they come from other states in Malaysia and reside in Klang Valley. :-P No, it won’t be expensive, if we can get a camping ground. Cause the chalets we stayed were expensive…

  7. hmmm the thing bout going into the forest is that there is a lot of pantangs …

maybe you guys were making too much noise and was having too much fun …

JACQ I think overall, the lake gives you a very eerie feeling. It’s too quiet…too quiet…

  10. my girlfriend told me that when she was young, she can see things…too tell you the truth, i think we are not alone here…and if i were you, i would have chicken out and fainted…scary dude…

  11. Here is the link, on another blog I no longer post in. Feel free to have a read. To believe or not is your prerogative, but you might enjoy my feeble attempt at playing Night Shyamalan.

    Enjoy: http://nightcrossings.blogspot.....kyard.html

  12. Errr… suddenly I remember I have an appointment to attend to.

  13. Spooky, dude! Next time, bring a voice recorder so that you might catch some EVPs. A friend caught some during one of their hikes up Gunung Ledang, and we didn’t even know what the hell EVP was at the time.

  14. Er … I am not quite sure what I’m suppose to spot in the picture (can’t seem to see anything out of the ordinary).

But anyways, I believe we’re not alone … and the best thing is to just let ‘them’ be and hope ‘they’ will let you be too.

  15. puxape I’m very skeptical when it comes to ghostly matters. So, I try my best all the time to be logical of these so-called spooks. But I couldn’t explain Kenyir….

Keropok Thanks. To everyone, check this story out, it’s way better in terms of suspense compared to mine, that’s why I’m sticking to my day job. Hahaha!

    Wombat Appointment? Spiritual appointment? :-P
Izad EVP? I don’t know what it means either til I googled it. LOL! What can I say, I’m a man of science. :-D The recorder thing is a good idea…cue Gunung Senyum… ;-)
moz monster The last pic, could someone explain to me the dots, or the lines…there’s a few…no, nothing to do with the camera as I took multiple shots, and it’s not water…I’m not jumping into conclusions, but anyone could explain that to me, I’ll be grateful… :-)

  16. Needless to say, I don’t even dare to click to enlarge the last pic…. (its ten pm and hubby had gone in).

I’ll try again tomorrow. Wonderful Valentine story you got here, ha! You guys go there asap, I can’t wait for experience part deux

  17. Jewelle LOL. Well, it’s just a few funky-looking dots and dashes. :-P

  18. Not me! Im a scaredy cat.. I’ll just give you moral support from afar. lol. I’ve been spooked on trips before.. and I don’t wish to re-live them lol

  19. Btw, what’s so freaky abt that last pic?

  20. Sha Spooked trips are cool every once in a while… :-P There’s nothing freaky about the last one, just funky dots and dashes - could you scientifically explain them? :-)

  21. WOW!!! Sell your story to a movie producer man. Well written..!

I don’t mind joining you as aparanormal investigator… so when will it be?

  22. Robert LOL. No idea when this would be, trying to round up a bunch of pansy-less dudes is tough. Haha! Anyway, first thing’s first - GUNUNG SENYUM EXPLORATION, in April. Do join in the fun, it’s an open invite! :-)

  23. Yo Daniel, Call me … I will follow you there…. This time as “you know”
you dont have to be afraid of it scaring you… Protection will be given….
