The Better Listener
SharePosted on 22. Mar, 2007 by Gallivanter in Thoughts
No one ever told us men that listening to women is an crucial part of “being a man,” so we tend to brush it aside. So, I’m telling you now. You don’t have to agree with your partner, just listen and try to understand. That I’ve learned too.
It’s important to distinguish the various feelings that women tend to speak. I’ve learned that for women, the feeling is usually more significant that the message (they’ll never admit to this). Don’t be a faultfinder, ask her questions for her to open up if you can’t bite your tongue.
One thing I know, that we, men, have this inbuilt hypothesis to solve everything. That’s not the case for women. So, if she’s yelling, bring your voice down and she’ll do the same. Hope this entry helps ya.
Ladies, your thoughts?

all i can say is………i love eddie.
Different women need different tactics.
some women just likes the husband to decide everything including giving their salary to them.
Some women are very opinionated and needs to be heard all the time.

Wah, spot on!
I’m not the most talkative of women, in fact quite the opposite, but when I do it’s rarely to seek advise but for someone to listen and emphatise. Women friends are able to do this intuitively but men automatically see a problem and swiftly propose solutions like some knight to the rescue.
Neither approach is right or wrong, I can certainly see the benefit of logical solutions and not meandering about, but women sometimes just like to take the long route to come to a conclusion.
I guess as long as both parties learn to compromise (the men shut up for a little while and practise nodding, and the women curtail the impulse to whine extendedly) then we should be able to get along famously don’t you think? :p

tihtahpah Well, I believe, ultimately, it’s the same for all. Men need to listen.
huei Different needs yes, but I’m talking about needs. I’m talking about the men listening to women.
Jackie *CLAP CLAP CLAP* Well said Jackie.
If only compromising was that easy. LOL.
BrokenStarfish Well, it’s a lifelong learning process…
Sha That’s usually the case for men, sometimes, we need to find that out for ourselves.

it is said ‘men tends to listen like walls’ althou listening but they aren’t giving any indication that they’re listening. Women likes to express themselves but the mistakes men made is giving her the solutions to her problem instead of just understanding the fact that she only wants to be heard and not to be offered advises on how to solve it. its true, you don’t have to always agree on what she’s saying, just understanding her feelings and giving empathy is all women needs. what she’s saying is what she’s going through and NO she is not blaming you for why she is feeling upset. She’s just geram & tak puas hati on some issues and just wanna spilled it out. So all you gotta do is listen and please don’t offer her advise, trust me, she’ll be fuming mad!
