I remember, my mom always took me to Mimaland when we stayed in Sri Gombak back in the late 80s. I still can recall which road to take, some old Bentong road going through Greenwood park.
The huge (at that time) slide, straight down, was the highlight whenever I visited. The funky looking dinosaurs were an attraction too. But the one that gives me a rush is the slide, and always, after a couple of times, I then slide face down ala Superman.
Wasn’t the swimming pool natural? I’ve been told that it was closed in 1994 because its surroundings were susceptible to landslides. Wonder if it’s open. Hmmm…
Any of you been there?

I love the swimming pool in Mimaland! The slides still are pretty huge to me. The longest were like what…2-3 stories high?
I still remember my family would arrive there even before the pool opening time…together with bunch of other family waiting to go in. Good times.

Hey I’m from the Mimaland era too. We used to picnic there with a whole bunch of relatives. I loved the dinos! Scary but cool. Hahaha
It sadden me when I heard it was close. I half wishing that they would reopen Mimaland. Come on Mimaland operator! We want Mimaland back!

My only evidence of stepping into Mimaland is a black & white photo of my crying in Mimaland when I was just a toddler. I was told that I enjoyed that place so much that I didn’t want to go home. LOL!

anyone got a pic of it? i heard of it but am not sure if i’m been there
April 19th, 2007 at 1:38pm
i vaguely remember the big greenish pool. i remember not liking mimaland coz i was a preppy kid who prefered clean, chlorinated, blue tiled swimming pools =P
April 19th, 2007 at 1:50pm
Gawd~! Thats so old school them park man. I know that had this roller skating rink. And this maze made of some neatly trimmed headges. The green icky pool and the super tall slide petrified me.
April 19th, 2007 at 1:51pm
Am I revealing my age if I answer yes? LOL… I loved the dinos tho I can’t recall the pool… Wonder if the dinosaur statues are still there though. Won’t it be fun if sometime in the future they were unearthed, scaring the explorers half to death?!
April 19th, 2007 at 2:06pm

Chapree Da Grande Yes, I remember the slides were enormous. I miss my superman stunts.
Che-Cheh Let’s find a new investor (blogger), and reopen it as Blogaland. That’ll sure get the nerds drooling. LOL
pablopabla I remember frowning whenever it’s time to go, cause I loved the slide so much.
tihtahpah Got got, just wait a few years until someone invents a brain to printer gadget.
kimberlycun Gasp! Discrimination of the highest order. LOL. I was more interested in the slide.
Rauff Oh yes, I remember the maze. Wasn’t there a house of mirrors? Can’t remember the rink.
Paris Beaverbanks Shhh, let’s keep this a secret. Give ourselves another 20 years and then go public with our “discovery”. Hahahaha!
visithra Definitely in the 80s. Apparently it’s closed.
Mo Hmm, we should take a drive there one day. Perhaps on our way back from Gunung Senyum this weekend?

ipohchai Indeed, I think if you’re a kid of the 80s, living in Selangor, you would’ve at least been there ONCE.
Larawannabe I’ve been there a number of times, just because of those slides.

I went to Mimaland in 1981, when I was in Taylor’s College which is still located in that single building along Jalan Pantai (or Pantai Baru) and Bangsar is such a peaceful place.
During that time the place gave me a feeling that it is running down. We stayed overnight on those chalets above the lake.

my dad took me there when I was very small. Maybe once a month… Well, they closed Mimaland because there was an fatal accident.
April 23rd, 2007 at 12:10pm
catsndogs I’m glad it did. I’ll probably visit Mimaland when I’m in the vicinity just for old time’s sake.
Wombat There were chalets too? I’m sure if it’s re-opened, business would be brisk.
endroo G That can’t be it. I think it was the landslides.

Oh man…growing up, Mimaland was like Never neverland to me. A great place that i’d heard so much of but could not go to cos we didn’t own a car and times were tough! So sadly, i’ve never been there
April 23rd, 2007 at 10:57pm
sabrina I’m sorry to hear that. Neither did my family, we relied on the bus.
April 24th, 2007 at 12:09am

April 24th, 2007 at 5:13pm

hey u guys!! im staying in gombak. well the roads that you took to go to mimaland is now closed..they build houses and mimaland has been demolished..my sister is staying on the mimaland land herself!!
terified and rocky road…not to mention dark!!!
now days when we direct people to our house “Do you know wheres mimaland use to be?” they will answer no!!!so sad
June 3rd, 2007 at 4:08pm
naurahamin Well, you take that road from Gombak heading towards Greenwood Park, keep going straight until the end of the road, you’ll reach a T-junction, take a left and go all the way.
This is a 1988 direction, so am not sure whether they changed it.
Good luck.

I was looking at some of the pics taken when I was a kid and i saw one of my with a sign of Mimaland. I don’t remember much about the place but I do know that I had a lot of fun there. So I’ve been searching the net for info. Even Wikipedia was only able to provide a one liner info on Mimaland. I’m glad to have chanced upon this chat but am sad to know that Mimaland has been demolished.

naurahman,
I think you are mistaken. I am writing a one page story on Mimaland for the january issue of TELL magazine, a locally-published English language magazine.
A small team from TELL went there in mid-November 2007 (last week) and the road is still there. Damaged and broken in some places, but still there.
There are no housing development there – just unkempt jungle. And when I saw the swimming which I used to enjoy – good god! Peeps, check it out for yourselves.
cheers

December 28th, 2007 at 4:40pm

December 28th, 2007 at 4:43pm
gallavanter bro,

Check today’s The Star newspaper (published in Malaysia) Metro section, they featured Mimaland as an abandoned place right now.
August 3rd, 2008 at 4:29pm
i was there 1987 school trip form 4. we were on 2 day trip and stayed at its chalet one night. i it was unforgetable sweet memories, activities such as boating, swiming n slide, walk-around the lake at night, the dinosours park. i think i have to search back those photos….sweet memories..
June 21st, 2009 at 9:06pm
Hey, I just went from Gombak all the way to the Janda Baik junction and couldn’t find Mimaland…
Could anyone direct me there… if it’s still there. I vaguely remember the place when I was young and it has since become this elusive forgotten city that everyone remembers but no one remembers how to get there?
Thanks.
