Sad but true. We live in a society that emphasizes on material things, that we end up drilling ourselves 6 feet under. Don’t wholeheartedly swop your time for moolah. You’re gonna kick the bucket ANYWAY. It’s an icky deal, just like borrowing from loan sharks.

Whenever I need to unwind after work, I find solace in my collection of songs, and karaoke away from the trammels of gridlocks while swaying like an Egyptian. It’ll surely get the drivers to stay away from me, “eeek, that botak fella’s insane!”, though I also get that remark when I don’t drive, but that’s not the point. :-P

Office drama. Stay out of it, it’ll only devour your soul. Take time off. It IS as easy to do as it is easy to say. It’s all in your mind. Don’t whine like a swine.

You HAVE to learn when to say no. We are only homosapiens, none of us have red capes. Chill Neo, take the blue pill for once. Don’t turn into a snarky grouchy obtuse mortal like the smurfs. But obviously (to those who lack common sense), you need to maintain a healthy balance between work and life. BALANCE.

Work shouldn’t define your entire existence. Else, go dig a grave, bury yourself and a treble-dreaming Manure fan. :-)

  1. if u can have passion about what u work.. in tat case…work is life…

  2. Work to live is the motto i go by! Not the other way around. but if you have satisfaction from your work most of the time then at least you are one way better than most. (guess who works for the governement!)

  3. work is not everything!! hehe but no choice..no work no money X(

  4. Its happened!!!??? you have turned into… Dr Phil..

  5. well, Hakuna Matata! we had became the money slave.

  6. Indeed – a lot of ppl I know think work is life – that’s the only thing they know – home work work home – yikes its so scary – there is a lot of different things u can do – hobbies that you can take up n hell go travel

    the number of ppl who burn of their holidays doing nothing is so freaking sad – n thats where u get the weird bosses who think sundays are for extra meetings – nutz i tell ya – u dont have a life dont go around spoilling others

    I work to travel ;) my friends claim im always planning the next trip – which is pretty true ;) that’s the only motivation for me to wake up in the morning n head to work

    Not that I don’t love the job – but I love the traveling part more ;)

  7. eh..leave the smurfs out of this! lol

  8. sometime, the co-workers or clients are just so damn pesky. How good we dont need to go to office and everyone work at home.

  9. I think it still come down to money.

    Work = Money
    Money = Better Life
    Money = Better Heathcare
    > Better Heathcare = Better Life
    Money = Security
    > Security = Better Life
    Money = Nice Car
    > Nice Car = Better Life

    haha…this can go on

  10. clement Well, the best is, if your work is your hobby. :-)

    Mr D Work to survive…

    huei Yes, money’s not everything, but everything’s money.

    Mo Yes, Dr Galli’s in the house! I cannot not rely on photos of maneaters all the time you know. Hahaha!

    yipguseng Kumbaya my friend…

    visithra I share the same sentiments, the gist of this entry is to enlighten some workaholics that there’s more to life than work. ;-)

    tihtahpah :-P

    endroo G Working at home may have benefits, but I see it as a disadvantage as it reduces human interaction, as it is humans are getting lazier thanks to technology.

    Wahlau.NET Well, like I said, a BALANCE is needed. Look at Maslow’s hierarchy of needs…self-actualization my friend…

  11. I love my work, I really do! The company plays an important part as well for you to like your work… also colleagues. But I do like what I do disregard all of the above.

    Having said that, as much as I love what I do, I still do it to live. Nobody work for fun, well… maybe adalah, but the main reason you work is because you need to live… bills to pay, food to buy, rent to pay etc. Unless you have an access to unlimited fund, that would be a different story.

    But for the most of the ppl, we need to work to live. I can’t afford to live my life if I don’t work. Even if I hate my job, I would still have to do it :( I am just grateful I love what I do, it makes everything seems bearable! :)

    And yes, apart from work to live… I work because of I need to be materially satisfied, hahaha! What’s better than satisfying your material needs with your hard earned money?

    Time off is IMPORTANT! I can’t wait for mine in June, lalalalala *skipping around*

  12. living in our pathetic asian culture… work always take precedent. saying no is like a taboo, which is why, we all end sick or over-weight, due to lack of life.

  14. true on dat simon…loved the part on the “treble dreaming Manure fan” at the end.

  15. Faiez I agree, like I said, the main essence of this entry is to say one NEEDS a BALANCE, of working and living. ;-)

    zewt I agree, our Asian mentality is timid, but one shouldn’t use that as an excuse I think. :-)
