They think it’s really gwai-low looking mah! Very in-style! Eh, that picture of Lilian Too is absolutely classic case of ‘putting on years’, man! where you find it?

I’ve tried coloring my hair from brown, blue black to shocking red but never blonde. Why? Because I was younger and I wanted to explore the wonders of dyes and hair colors (mwahahaha!) and because I wanted to try it all on my hair. You know, I’ve even gone bald once – but botak habislah. Just botak on the sides. LOL!

I think it’s rather personal opinion. Mine was because I wanted to try it all on my hair while I’m still young – coz when I’m much older, I think I’d look ridiculous with those funky colored hair.

that’s one scary picture! i stopped dyeing my hair for a while now coz it was rosak-ing my hair ;(

I guess it’s bias but I personally think men who dye their hair are wonky. It is so not flattering.

On the other hand if people dye their hair in shocking colours, so be it. It’s a matter of choice anyway. If you don’t like it, you can always enjoy sniggering behind their backs and feeling superior right? :)

A cheaper, painless and temporary way compared to plastic surgery in terms of ‘experimenting’ with a new look, heh heh. And if all fails, you can go back to black with a bottle :)

I’ve had blonde streaks before but that’s as ‘blonde’ as i’ll get!

For me, if men dye their hair into nice colours or colours that fit them well, that would be a bonus. If it is the other way round, they are Ah Bengs all the same! LOL!!! :)

For women ar…I tried lightning blue and love it. But when the colour faded, I looked old. Nah, I still prefer original colour. Most auntie dye their hair coz wanna hide their gray hair.

But that pic of Lilian Too is really scary leh!

I’ve never coloured my hair! Yay! And no, except for highlights, I don’t think colouring one’s hair makes one prettier. Or macho-er. LOL.

About 15 years ago i bleached my hair. Big mistake. It led me down the path of losing my hair (I feelif i hadnot bleached I would have gotten another 3/4 years of good hair)

I just tried to go for a new look.

Mind you this was before bleacing/colouring hair by guys was the in thing.

so does this make me the trend setter? haha

  12. visithra

    May 23rd, 2007

I’ve never dyed my hair coz I think it looks ridiculous on Asians we just don’t have the skintone to carry coloured hair

Especially blonde – the ah bengs are so ridiculous lookingla

But if someone fair were to sport shocking pink or blue n it looks good on them (very rarely) id like it – but not on tan skin pls ;p

But I guess most ppl just wannabe mat sallehish – or they just wanted to take a risk with the hair since they don’t take any other risks in life?

  13. huei

    May 23rd, 2007

i dye my hair..just for the sake of some changes! hehehe

  14. JACQ

    May 23rd, 2007

I dye my hair wat.. But my hair is originally dark brown, and the colours aren’t even. Call it natural streaks, if you will. But I don’t like it, and that’s why I would dye it black almost annually. I have gone blonde before, just for the sake of a dare. SO UGLY! Never again! LOL..

most of the time its to hide their grey hair…. but dyeing your hair is also a form of fashion and expression, just like your cloths, shoes & accesories, body peircings, tattoos etc etc… we see it in and around the fashion runways, in Hollywood, Kollywood and Bollywood and hong kong superstars… the lastest hairstyles & colours.. bleach, streaks and layers and shocking vibrant colours

the key word is styling and you have to treat your hair everyday or atleast once a week… with good quality products… then sit in front of the mirror everyday to dress it up before going out.

but somany try and copy with dreaded results which almost always ruin their hair…. making it unmanagable, dry and freeze… and most dont even have the time of money to maintain it…

But colored wigs are so cool! Now hand over the Jack Daniel’s.

    May 23rd, 2007

*lol @ bryan n hands an alleycat bob dyed blond to daniel* but seriously, i will never dye my hair – i’m too afraid that right after, i might just lose what ever i have, which is not much by the way….plus, i agree with visi. asians look BEST with whatever color they were born with, particularly dark colors. and i absolutely LOVE to see chinese girls with black hair. GORGEOUS!!! but i guess highlighting with sense is the best way to go. then u dont look like mat salleh sesat! :P

  22. Lucifer

    May 23rd, 2007

oh great Gallivanter so you mean to say am one of those idiots :D when i came to malaysia 2 yrs ago my hair was like this already :D one day i came to office without any color my boss tells me why did i dye my hair black? :D

  23. Rudy

    May 23rd, 2007

I love doing crazy things to my hair..obviously if you are going to do it, you have to be realistic with how you really look. If you are going to pull a Christina Aguilera than I suggest you make sure that your skin tone, face features and face shape are similar enough, if you got round face with smaller eyes for example, please…stop. Revise your decision.

I think guys who dyes their hair are hot…on the condition that they know how to pull it off.

I think the people, both men and women, who colors their hair in bizarre colors are expressing their need to be seen. It’s more of a psychological reason rather than fashion. Which gets me thinking…I loved my bright red hair…thinking about going purple like Japanese Anime since my hair is long again…but really it’s a fashion thing…if I have psychological imbalances that needs a voice…I just get drunk. :P

  24. xin

    May 23rd, 2007

yarh I colored my hair.. coz i am sick of having black hair all my life..

  25. Che-Cheh

    May 23rd, 2007

    That’s why I don’t color my hair…why waste $$ leh

  26. Giddy Tiger

    May 23rd, 2007

Too much of color is bad – it’s a waste of money and spoils the hair shaft. Guys should save their money for other better things, like a bottle of JD, for instance :)

  27. davelynne@sumandak

    May 23rd, 2007

duh! i dye but not the blond-dey one…

  28. Gallivanter

    May 23rd, 2007

marsha In style? Which style is this? Jakun? I found the photo while looking at ugly hair colors, and he photo came up during the search. LOL.

cindy Side botak? Like a mullet? Why not the full Sinead O’Connor? Some colors shouldn’t see the light of day, personal preference or not. There ought to be a law against that.

clement If you can, give it a try. Let me know if it works out. Much better than dyeing it blond.

Kay Kastum LOL. Yeah, I’ve got no issues. Lilian’s photo’s an example of hair coloring gone bad.

tihtahpah Yes, to prove my point.

Jackie Wonky? Hahahahaha! No, why snigger behind their backs when you can laugh at their face?

Melissa Well, if it’s inconspicuous, I suppose it’s okay, but is that the reasoning one uses? Comparing it to plastic surgery?

Clare It would be a bonus? I think some people are color blind, or, it’s a desperate attempt to get noticed.

pelf Yes, but most of them seem to think otherwise. “If my face is average, I’ll just focus on the hair.”

Mr D You trend-setter you. LOL. Bleach of all things. The worst thing I did was to straighten my hair when it was longish. Didn’t like it after a while.

visithra Good comment. Yes, someone forgot to tell Asians that we don’t have to be mat sallehish to prove a point that we’re risk takers.

huei As long as you don’t look like Lilian. That’s the point of no return.

JACQ Streaks are tolerable. I can believe you went blonde for a dare. Okay, now I dare you to go bald. :-P Yeah, a few people has told me about Lilian’s daughter, I checked out a photo earlier and almost fell off my chair! That must never see the light of day. LOL.

Mo Errr…ok, I find it a tad ludicrous to use fashion as grounds for reasoning. It seems to be like that lately…”it’s fashion..”. Blech.

Bryan Colored wigs are just that…wigs. You’d have to work harder for the JD. :-P

    k k j m And how bad was it?

Yvy *wears the afro blonde wig* Yeah baby! Black hair is seriously underrated. Streaks are fine, but no mat salleh sesat of course.

tihtahpah Sorry, got carried away with the bottle of Jack Daniels. :-P

Izad Hahahaha! You’re all beach eh?

Lucifer LOL. Yes, I forgot about your funky hairdo. I suppose Satan can get away with it.

Rudy Yes, that I am aware of. LOL. Yes, I agree, it’s more of a psychological stunt than fashion. So, you trying to say you’re psychotic. Well, told you not to have a best friend like me, see where it took ya? LOL.

xin What color is it? The infamous blondie?

    Che-Cheh Good for you. :-)

Giddy Tiger Now THIS is a comment! LOL. *hands him a bottle of Jack Daniels*…drink up! :-)

davelynne@sumandak Not like Lilian Too? :-P

  29. Faiez

    May 23rd, 2007

Oeh! I color my hair!!! Well… I always resort to dark brown though, or lil bit lighter hues of dark brown. :) I used to have VERY black hair when I was in school… very virgin hair… no chemical, no ciggie smoke etc etc… but later in my adult life, my hair become very not virgin anymore…. so I start to die it.

Of course I have A LOT of premature gray hairs, resulting for being overly smart *ehem*… so, I need to color my hair to not look like I’m undergoing chemo therapy.

Coloring your hair can change your look… it doesn’t have to be blonde, pleaseeee… altho I must say some people can get away with it. It can be any color your heart’s desire… and stop the typical judgemental crap that if you color your hair you want to be gwailo… aiyoooooo! We are moving towards 2020 already… who cares about other ppl hair color? There are A LOT of other things to care about mah! (like how to migrate overseas before it’s too late?)

  30. Gallivanter

    May 23rd, 2007

Faiez So that means with 2020, one get to look like a clown? LOL. Seriously, you don’t really need to be diplomatic and give politically “correct” answers about one’s rights and yadda yadda yadda. :-P What I’m looking for is analytic thinking. :-)

  31. Jewelle

    May 23rd, 2007

Ei, don’t you know that this is the period for “yellow hair” as per your feng shui mistress say? LOL. We have an aunt who coloured both her hair AND her house with an arresting shade of yellow. All about the money bebe :-p

  32. Gallivanter

    May 23rd, 2007

Jewelle Is she rich because of it? If that’s the case, then I’ll dye whatever hair’s available on my face…starting with the eyebrow… :-P

  33. Nebula

    May 23rd, 2007

Well, i do honestly think that a lil colour (provided its a shade that complements) is somehow able to brigthen up the most boring hair do !

adding a tad bit of spice to an otherwise bland look!

That said, asians should definitely keep clear of dying their full head blonde. Unless of course you’re going for the ‘genetically mutated’ look. ;)

  34. Gallivanter

    May 23rd, 2007

Nebula What’s a boring hairdo? Like the photo in this entry? :-P

  35. Nebula

    May 23rd, 2007

Lol …the pic in this entry is a perfect example of the “ I’ve been genetically mutated ” look.

  36. bunnywunny

    May 24th, 2007

Just to see if blondes do have more fun, I tried platinum once. Never again.

  37. Jewelle

    May 24th, 2007

She is, unfortunately seems very rich :-p (not a fav aunt) So when we do get to see your new look? LOL!

  38. Gallivanter

    May 24th, 2007

    Nebula LOL. Indeed!

bunnywunny Platinum? Wow, got any photos to share? :-P

Jewelle When I come over to KK to meet up with your sister and a bunch of bloggers. I hope I don’t scare them! :-D

  39. ennie

    May 25th, 2007

    Scary! She’s shockingly sooooo ‘berkarat’

  40. Lorraine Branson

    May 25th, 2007

I agree lighter color adds years… I went darker because I realised from looking at photos that I looked “aged”…. :)

  41. Gallivanter

    May 25th, 2007

ennie Yeah, I wanted to prove my point. ;-)

Lorraine Branson Hey Lorraine, yes, stay on the dark side please… ;-)
