After listening to the album, I’m glad that they took this route. They’ve kept abreast with the times, yet not sidetracking from their roots, which made them one of the greatest rock acts, and one that has survived time - 80s, 90s and 2000s. How many rock bands have successfully acclimatized themselves? I can count with one hand.

Lost Highway
Not a particularly potent tune like “Bounce” & “Have a Nice Day”, it’s a decent effort, however, I would’ve preferred if Bon Jovi sang one or two chords higher, it’s either done deliberately, or all those vocal-range-prowess concerts has taken its toll on Jon. A good driving song nevertheless. 5/10
Summertime
A unique track, a nice hook, but the chorus and the vocals are powerless - reminded me of “Say It Isn’t So” and “Something For the Pain”. It has remnants from their previous album, HAVE A NICE DAY. Not a favorite of mine - solo’s weak too. 4/10
(You Want to) Make a Memory
I love this track, and the chorus has a ceaseless heartbeat rhythm and with Jon’s awe-inspiring vocals and Richie’s harmonizations, it’s a perfect illustration how potent a ballad can be without being lofty. Bon Jovi has never released a ballad as their first single (except This Ain’t a Love Song), so this was kind of startling. Of course, it can never outmatch ALWAYS. 7/10

Whole Lot of Leaving
A solid song, with a first-rate solo. Well-written, with a great deal of emotions injected, a wonderful mix of country and rock. You can feel Jon’s soul and Richie’s broken heart in this track. A melancholic tune glossed over a positive melody. 9/10
We Got it Going On (ft Big & Rich)
A topnotch sounding hook, but with really destitute lyrics. But I’m guessing it’s crummy for a purpose - country music. The progress towards the solo (priestlike lecture by Big & Rich) is dazzling - and Richie strikes a home run with the guitar riff. It has so much vigor and I can see it illuminating live audiences. 7/10
Any Other Day
PERFECT. FIRST CLASS. MASTERPIECE. Freakin’ magnificent lyrics and glorious music. It’s their best song in years. Richie’s presence is telling - not one but 2 guitar solos! This song reminds me of Someday I’ll Be Saturday Night in terms of its lyrical substance. MUST be released as the next single at all cost. A hair-raiser, rocking number! 10/10

Seat Next to You
Fantastic percussion, sweet-flavored lyrics. Nice touch with the female voice accompaniment, and easily a gem for couples - “my precious”! It has DESTINATION ANYWHERE feel to it, Jon’s 1997 solo album. A commendable ballad. 6/10
Everybody’s Broken
Different. Nice different. Pick-me-up lyrics, one that’ll grow on you, though I think the break between the words in the verses could’ve been bettered. Another great car song, would make a perfect curtain closer for a movie, one where you drive into the sunset. Heartwarming. 8/10
Til We Ain’t Strangers Anymore ft Le Ann Rimes
I’ve never been a fan of Le Ann Rimes at all. But, I must say that the musical harmony between Jon and LeAnn is wonderful to the ear. AND, Richie once again, provides 2 solos! Jon must’ve heard how much Bon Jovi fans missed listening to Richie’s solo riffs. 8/10
The Last Night
A flawed artistic production. Natural and omnipotent vocals. So much potency, unfortunately the chorus is echoed a tad too much. Apart from that, it’s one of my favorites on the album. Full of passion. 9/10

One Step Closer
Another favorite of mine, love the chorus! It’s one of those song that’ll warm up to you after a few times. Richie’s back with yet another solo! Woohoo! It kinda reminds me of Ronan Keating’s schmaltzy song a couple of years ago, but of course, Bon Jovi does it better! Gratifying lyrics, and a marvelous bridge. 9/10
I Love This Town
A distinctive country song. A “Who Says You Can’t Go Home” knockoff, but, I prefer this one. Tico did justice to the drums, and with 2 great solos, Richie Sambora’s presence is felt YET again. OLE! A song that’ll in all likelihood broaden Bon Jovi’s audience age gap - it makes a dandy country-dancing song. 5/10
Put the Boy Back in Cowboy
With a cheesy country name like that, I was skeptical at first. This is as country as Bon Jovi can get - and you get the feeling that it’s a sideswipe at rednecks. LOL. They should’ve gone with SHE PUT THE BOY BACK IN COWBOY instead of that name, cause it gives a brokeback vibe, though it’s a song about a having the hots for a country beauty. 6/10
Lonely
A poignant tune, about someone being there for someone who’s lonely - it’ll strike the base of your heart. I prefer this song to Seat Next to You. “There’ s a whole lot of lonely waiting out there, so be safe my lover let me offer my prayer”. 7/10
Walk Like a Man
I’ve always been a fan for storytelling songs, and this Bon Jovi track does just that - between a dad and his son. It’s a very touching tune, and I’ve embraced it. It reminded me about my late dad and brought me to tears. 8/10

A step in the right direction for the band. And the solos on this album transcends all of their previous albums, the vocal and musical harmonies - WOW. The songs have contemplative ambiances to it. Catchy guitar riffs seasoned with country imprints, lyrics of emotional flutter and ordinary people endeavoring for something better, and you get LOST HIGHWAY.
A classic Bon Jovi signature. 7.5/10 on the Gallivanter Scale.

cindy Well, it won’t be out til next week, and I’d highly recommend this album to anyone who loves adult contemporary. It’s not rambunctious, and the harmonies is worth listening to.
tihtahpah Where? It’s only released in the US on the 19th June. RHCP sound the same to me, as for Rolling Stones, though they’re one of the best live bands in the world, name me a hit post-2000.

You definitely have to count Rolling Stones and U2 in that hand (bands that successfully acclimatised themselves over the decades).
Stones may have not had runaway, burn the airwaves hits post 2000, but it’s only because they’ve been hitting the road hard tour after tour after tour. First the Licks tour, and currently the Bigger Bang tour. Also the Stones have been around since the early 60s, so unless Bon Jovi continue recording success post 2020, its really no comparison.
Still, if you want to hear some really good Stones hits post 2000, try ‘Sweet Neo Con’ and Mick Jagger on ‘Blind Leading The Blind’ (recommended - this is brilliant). 5 decades, 55 albums of orinal work, and close to 40 top-10 singles!

Tiffani I like Daughtry’s voice, but I think the album’s a disappointment in the sense that he did not take risks. I’ve reviewed the album in one of my previous entries.
Giddy Tiger Spot on! Bon Jovi were the first foreign rock band to perform live in Malaysia.
WanderingSumandak Both of those songs are eternal classics.
Keropok Yes, I do have Stones and U2 in that hand.
I like the Rolling Stones.

I think my fav song is Everybodys Broken. The lyrics to the whole CD are so personal and deep. You can feel the emotion of the cd. Jon’s voice is beautiful. I’m not real crazy about hearing JBJ sing a ‘redneck song’,– “Put the boy back in cowboy”–but its cute and different. lol I mean, I’m a Texan but JBJ saying ‘I was just a redneck wanna be’ is too much!lol I give this cd a 9/10!

When I first heard (You Want To) Make A Memory, I thought they were gonna sing 500 Miles lol! However it has grew on me so much.I was also dreading the Country influence to the album. However Ive listened to it so many times now and recommended it to everyone! It is very clever indeed but then Jon’s a business man. Ok hsi voice aint what it used to be but he doesn’t need to sing sky high anymore. And boy it’s so good to have Richie back with a vegence and he is letting us all know that!!!!

A very good,or excellent song,in a single cd,like demo…
but i think that this isnt the same situation…
Because that album was 4 or maybe 5/10 (I disagree, because i like it)
And lost highway is an album of 8 or 9,and 10 too!!!
And i like sooo much…

Peg Yes, “Everybody’s Broken” will be featured this Friday. Straight to the heart stuff. It’s a really enjoyable album, and I rate it above “Have a Nice Day”, “Crush” and “Bounce” in terms of flow.
Brian I agree - maturity - not many bands can take that by their stride with class.
Duncan Simms Yes, his voice isn’t what it used to be, and this direction is a right one for the band. The vocal harmonies and Richie Sambora’s presence are the main attraction of the album.
tincho sambora Richie Sambora is definitely one of the world’s best lead guitarist. No doubt. You didn’t like Destination Anywhere - Jon’s solo album? I enjoyed listening to that one.
[Reply]
June 11th, 2007 at 5:00pm
When it comes to the solo albums Richie’s shine way above Jons and he doesn’t get enough credit for it. In them he has proved he is the complete guitarist. he can play rock, jazz, soul, blues and now country!!! And his voice is so soulful. i’m not saying i dislike jon’s albums, I just think that Richie is unique and simply superb.
[Reply]
June 11th, 2007 at 9:20pm
Duncan, you are so right! Richie’s solo albums are fantastic! His voice is one in a million. I do love Jon’s Destination Anywhere tho. Its different, but great! At first I hated the girl background vocals, with all the cheesy Oo la la stuff, but now I love it!
[Reply]
June 11th, 2007 at 9:30pm
Duncan Simms I agree, in terms of guitar riffs, but I somehow rate Destination Anywhere just a little better - maybe because I’m used to Jon’s voice.
Some of Richie’s solo songs would’ve been perfect for Bon Jovi - like “Undiscovered Soul”.
Peg Midnight in Chelsea? LOL. Well, after a while you get used to it I suppose. My favorite track is Learning How to Fall.

Peg Correcto. Was about to say that.
tincho sambora I agree, the band’s better.

Morning just got up lol. Yes mate Jon did play that solo. Right here is an issue for you. Crush! Right ok….the album gave them a new erea of young fans who hadn’t really heard much of them. However for the generation of fans who have been there since day 1 and had to wait 5 long years for this album…and lets face it it’s predecessor These Days was a classic, the majoroty of us thought Crush was a let down. 5 Years!!!
It kicked off with It’s My Life and I thought this is gonna be great! However it then seemed to turn shite! Ok Just older and a few others are ok but it seemed as if they hadn’t forgotten to write as a unit! thing is the album was globally a big success!! i really think it’s their 2nd worst album next to 7800 Fah. Sorry lol
[Reply]
June 12th, 2007 at 4:42pm
Duncan Simms Well, I don’t believe CRUSH was that bad, it road on the success of IT’S MY LIFE and catapulted Bon Jovi into the limelight again. I rate LOST HIGHWAY higher than CRUSH and HAVE A NICE DAY.
BOUNCE on the other hand, was almost a classic had they not rely on electronics and replace songs like “Right Side of Wrong”, “Love Me Back to Life”, “You Had Me From Hello” and “Open All Night” with “Another Reason to Believe”, “No Regrets”, “We Can Dance” and “Postcards from The Wasteland”, it would’ve been a musical masterpiece.

I remember seeing it in a guitar shop by me back in 96, really wanted it but couldn’t afford then i saw some fool selling it on ebay!! The best band ever doesn’t come to south Florida often, and I’m only 12 so i haven’t got the pleasure of seeing a rockin’ concert yet! Me and my bff’s (Kimmie and Jami) are saving for tickets on the “Lost Highway” tour coming in Jan. 2008! Can’t wait! Hopefully we’ll have enough $$$ to get decent tickets by the time they head to the Sunshine State!

Yeah, i like “Lost Highway”! Listened to it yeasterday on vh1.com! But, i think i’m gonna have to give the “Favorite Album” name to “Crossroad”. It has all their best songs, how could you not like it? The only one i would’ve liked to see on that album is “it’s my Life”. i ttly luv that song! Also, is Richie in rehab for…DRUGS????? I hope not, he’s my hero! BTW, have you ever noticed tht Richie has a guitar solo in almost every song? So for tincho sambora, Jon is NOT being selfish! I love him, so never say anything bad about him in front of me…

Hey, u guys really seem to like “Lost Highway” over “Crush” and “Bounce”, but what about “Slippery”? I think the band had the best music in the late 80’s and early 90’s because that was the prime time for rock and roll. Those were the best songs, in my opinion at least, (Livin’ on a Prayer, You Give Love a Bad name)because i like their hard rock spirits! Really, what happened to the old Bon Jovi that we’ve all come to know and love? With the big fluffy hair and ttly torn jeans? Sorry I’m just not the country/mature rock type of person! Any other opinions?????????

Hey Gallivanter! Thanks for the review. I can’t wait to get through the album! I loved the tracks you had put up. Too bad they are not coming to Toronto on their recent tour. I went to their last one. They had 4 shows out here! It was so awesome.
I managed to get tickets although I went all alone, it was still so amazing!
keep the faith

everts It’s an adult contemporary masterpiece. I don’t think Bon Jovi cares if the other rock bands make fun of them, where are they now anyway?
tincho sambora Check your e-mail.
Suzy Pretenders?
Azhar No problemo, Gallivanter or Daniel’s fine by me. I’m just hoping that they visit Asia next year or so when they release their next album…

Also, they’re gonna be on MTV Unplugged. Here are the show times: VH1-June 22 at 9 o’clock 8 central, MTV-June 23 same times, CMT-June 24 same times. Go to VH1.com for details! Hear ’bout their $ 1 million dollar book turn down!!?? I wouldn’t want some one doing a really detailed book on my life either!

Jovi on “The View” today! In easten time, Bon Jovi was on “The View” on abc today at 11:00am! See if you can catch it again. They performed “(You Want To) Make a Memory” and “Who Says You Can’t Go Home.” It was great. Me and my bffl (best friend for life) Jami were on speaker phone over the whole show. JBJ also answered some Q’s. Come on guys, we can do better than number 3! Jovi is suposed to be number 1 on Vspot Top 20 Video Countdown. VOTE, VOTE, VOTE! They NEED to be #1! I just wanna get in Daughtry’s face. Anyone else in with me???

Beatriz Yes, they are good, and you can’t really find any bands these days trying to uplift souls. And that’s the reason I love them.
Kim I can’t wait to catch it on youtube.

I Love Bon Jovi because they are one of my facorite bands that are still alive and writing music! Rolling Stones…are old, Queen…Well Freddie Mercury is dead so that basicly is over for the band, Pink Floyd…Syd Barret is dead, Aerosmith…love ‘em but are getting “up there”. Do you see a pattern? All my fav bands are really old, or dead!!! And trust me, i have many fav bands! Def Leppard, Van Halen, the Doors, The Who…I like 80’s hair bands! Supertramp, Styx…

Hi Gallivanter.
Can you tell me if the 100,000,000 album is out in the Uk. I live in Cornwall, not near a large city. In fact by the Eden Project. Will I only be able to get it on line????

pretendersfan Of course. I have Sambora’s album. I’m not sure of the 100,000,000 album being available in the UK, it’s pretty limited in numbers. Check out play.com.

pretendersfan-If you go to http://www.bonjovi.com and scroll down, there is International Bon Jovi. Then click on the UK and it has some info on the single “Who Says You Can’t Go Home”, but not 100,000,000 fans. I didn’t know if u’d be interested in that???

I saw them perform “want to make a memory” on the View. I immediately went and downloaded the song on Itunes. And then I downloaded the entire CD. It speaks of freedom, lost love, hopefullness, and moving forward in life with meaning. It is terrific and I’ve already listened to all the songs at least 5 times in 24 hours. I’m hooked! and I’m no country fan but these songs all have so much meaning.

kiks Well, I scoured through the drycounty forum, and also found the songs on the net. “Walk Like a Man” should’ve made the album. Period.
Peg Guess I do. LOL. I got the LIVE songs too, 3 of ‘em.
