Blooger Booze : A Socializing Night Out
As expected, the place was occupied by 10pm, some 35 bloggers and 20 non-bloggers, and it all came down to mingling. I went around as much as I possibly could, though sometimes I wish there was a cloning machine so more of me get to mingle.
I would like to thank all bloggers who surfaced that night – and I do hope you made new friends and somewhat enjoyed the hobnobbing.

A good few canceled as the very last minute, quoting the sponsor’s name as the reason, which I found it rather immature, though I finally realized why when the night was over. I’m on the fence with the war between the 2 advertisers, and I’m backing neither, that was my stand. But…

The venue was intractable to some, as I had envisaged. I had a number of beer drinking games in mind, but only managed to sneak in one, as the noise levels among bloggers and “people with lives” were healthy. Of course, there were some who chose to remain in their own social circle. Oh well.
Honestly, I kinda felt let down by Advertlets with the promise of the sponsorship and the way it was managed. It made me realize the truth in some of the remarks by bloggers. Unfortunately.
I ended proceedings approx 12:15am, with a good number of few stayed back, 11 of us (4 bloggers – Elaine, Timothy, Faiez & I) decided to head over to Laundry to wash a bottle of Chivas down our throats. I only then realized that I made a boo boo, by forgetting to take the registration book that was on the stage. Sigh. If anyone took it, please let me know, guess in the midst of yapping around, it slipped my mind. Apologies, could you leave a remark or contact me so I could prepare a list? Thanks.
It was supper at some mamak restaurant in Damansara Perdana, ended at 6:30am. It’s been a while since I had a late night like that – it’s too few and far between – thank God. I’m too old for this – but I refuse to embrace my aging process. Blech.
That’s it folks, I’m done organizing meets this year, but, if any of you need help to promote your meet or anything like that, you know where to find me. I’ll be more than happy to lend a hand or noise. Gallivanter signing out!

Hey dude, thanks for inviting me ya! =D
i guessed me, chelva, alvin and wan shen were the 4 who left the last, but din saw any sign of your book on the stage, or probably it was there and we did not see it.
anyway, great event there. saw some “changes” or maybe something “missing” on ur blog, guess that stated out something, heheh.
it was fun huh..
anyways.. good job done tho..
although i was not there
since u dont hv the book mayb everyone who went should mention it in the comments so that you can compile a list. Anyway it was good of you to organize it. Perhaps more socializing games/activities should be done next time, and in a much smaller place to “force” ppl to mingle. LOL!
ah, sorry dan to have missed this. but i was deep into the wizarding world. you know, there’re horcruxes to hunt and dark lord to vanquish for the greater good
eh..maaf dan, had some last minute family commitments to attend to. promise i wont ffk next time.
Looks like u guys had fun again ;p sorry i couldnt make it – couldn’t wriggle myself out of a function – oh well next time then
Sigh.. wish I was there.. so jealous oh me!
Yeah, I was there. Sorry I left early.
it was a great night..despite any um..*ahem*advertisers*ahem* problem!
thanks for the great night (this just sounds so wrong)! hehehehe i’m glad i didn’t back out
can’t be easy organizing this kind of things. i can imagine your frustration and the immediate need to wash down disappointment with bottle of chivas. i was also at curve wor. my non-blogger friends felt out of place and needed to move their asses a lil bit so we went to mystique in cineleisure and got pissed with dewarf’s and ‘sake’ (friend’s home) will 4am! tee hee. i was surrounded by non-blogers (brother included) and they were wondering what they supposed to do. sigh…
blogged it here. http://trulymarsha.wordpress.com/2007/07/23/boozing-all-the-way/
but daniel, you did a good job! it was really nice meeting you finally.
your new header picture also another leng-chai picture.
Golly, what happened? The advertisers dumped the bill on you? Do tell.
Still, ’tis I pity I missed the whole thing. Oh well, there’s always next time
HEy dan, thanks for the finger food… The Buffaloo wings and fried squid was superb… well the socializing was nice got to meet some of the bloggers and its always nice to put a face to a bloggers nick lah….
hey my team shld have won the drinking game lah… Chel cheated… booooo!!!…… i want a rematch!!!!
somehow… by the tone of the post, im glad i was not there.
But i do want to be in the 3rd picture. Thats my real place to be…
No problem Dan. Just come back home here in KK. We treat you right, as always.
hey thanks for the wonderful event.. it was all good eventhough we didnt really get our share of the promised “sponsored” booze
Look at it this way. 35+20 people can share two jars and drink like the communal tuak mah. More love to share, isn’t it? *shaddap already Lilian!* And when are you coming to Penang to organise one like the one in KK? Char koay teow on me.
sorry i wasnt there to support u! but looking at the pictures and comments, i think you’ve done a great job! thanks for organzing!
)
Very well done job my dear, despite the hiccups from the organizer.
so no worries…looking at the comments…i believe everyone had a great time!!!
I was terribly late. Sweating and smelled like petrol and engine oil. But nice to see the people behind the blog. Gallivanter is very hyper and excited all the time, his GF is too hot, Ratu Syura is just as expected bubbly and sweet, and Josh Lim is alright. He ‘belanja’ me beer and gave a button badge. The rest of them? Did not had the chance to find out more. Most of them were leaving already to a place called Laundry (Could have got a good wash there).
BTW, my wife was pissed a little because I still insisted to come when it was already very late. But she cooled down afterwards.
Sorry mate. Was kinda quiet that night. Guess the overdose of booze from Thursday took it’s toll. The venue was alright though apart from the sudden silence when the speakers had some problems. LOL
Will make it up in another gathering of sorts. Cheers.
Hi Daniel,
I wonder why you chose not to tell me that night itself there were other bills to be paid. Besides some of the beers, I was also buying individual bloggers drinks (which may or may not have been communicated to you). Quite a few bills came my way that night, and its unfortunate that I missed a few…and even more unfortunate that you did not remind me.
Let me know and we’ll cover whatever you had to fork out of your own expense. Serious. I have allocated a budget for it, which is why I still had some budget left over later in the night when we headed to Laundry.
Anyway, just to clarify – its not that we chose not to pay, its just that no one asked me at that time! Really, sorry, cheers! Please call me back btw – can’t reach your phone.
yipguseng Yeah, but I’ve learn from it, and in future will be more upfront with sponsorship promise instead of going about it the gentlemen way.
tom Well, perhaps another meet. It was an enjoyable outing for me. I was like a headless chicken meeting everyone there.
iced nyior Yeah, I feel really bad forgetting about it. And yes, I agree about the games and smaller place. Point noted.
Jayelle Vindicated?
Larawannabe No problem. Hope you’re enjoying your Potter book.
tihtahpah Ok no prob. I didn’t realized you were MIA until I saw “kukujiao”. LOL.
visithra Yup yup. You should’ve been my official photographer as I hardly took any that night.
JACQ Nevermind, let’s make next year’s KK meet a success.
The Snark It was an honour for you to grace this event, and it was nice to see a familiar face. Let me know if there were any application for GIRL FRIDAY. And you’re on my feed now btw.
huei Glad you enjoyed it, it’s always nice meeting new faces isn’t it?
marsha Especially when there’s no help. LOL. Anyway, I hope it turned out well for you though I didn’t have much time to actually stop, take a breath and have deep conversations.
Tine No, the advertisers didn’t dump any bill on me, as it was to each their own. Unfortunately, what was promised, as a gentlemanly gesture was not fulfilled.
Mo The finger food was actually sponsored by Modesto’s themselves. It was my other half’s idea the night before – so have to thank her for that! As for the drinking game, well, practice a little and you can have your rematch next year.
papajoneh Well Papa J, it was a great night, as the issues I faced were only made known to a few people. Ultimately, my objective of getting people to mingle was achieved. You would’ve thrived in the atmosphere.
Ting Tit Lei It was great to have met ya, and no, I still haven’t figured out expression number 12 yet. BTW, loved the FERRARI shirt! Haha!
lilian That 2 jugs were for the beer drinking game only. LOL. That also I told the waiter to buy it and claim the money directly from the advertiser.
Sure you want me to come to Penang to organize? Don’t want la, after I kena “tembak” for overdoing it I suppose.
Jean No problem Jean, perhaps next year if I’m up for it. Personally, I could’ve use some help with the organizing.
BB Thanks. It feels good to know that my efforts were not in vain.
Kay Kastum The fact that you showed up, was enough to turn me from hyper-excited to very-hyper-excited! Thank you! Hope I didn’t scare your wife with my antiques. LOL. And my GF thanks you for that remark.
Sunil No problem Sunil, I was concerned about you having a good time than anything else, hence my regular stopovers to each table.
And yes, the speakers were dodgy, and the mic too.
Josh Lim Dude, there was no additional bills, my other half was there the night you mentioned about the “multi-hundred” sponsorship, so as gentleman, I agreed, just like how I went about with Timothy of Nuffnang. Maybe you did sponsor individual bloggers, what about the ones you missed out on? Didn’t I suggest to buy bottles/beers and use them for the games I had in mind?
The fact that many cancelled simply because they didn’t like you, I thought was rather childish – and I still say that they’re immature for doing so, just because they can’t get along with one person, they sacrifice the opportunity to meet more than 50! But that’s a different story.
I’m not influenced by what people say, hence I gave you that opportunity, but I felt disappointed with the overall assistance from your side. The lack of urgency from your end didn’t deserve to have the “ADVERTLETS PRESENTS” added to the blogger booze. I’m not going to delve into the details for that night – but, I think it’s best for both of us that we severe our ties. Thanks for your help and all the best with your future.
Hey man.
First, thanks for your assistance in organizing the gathering. My apologies for not being as of much assistance as I could be – I had just come from an event earlier that day. As of such I was busier than I should have been, although I did manage to get someone to make sure the attendees were registered. I thank you for being on the ball with the rest of things. Btw, I managed to collect the list before we left, it wasn’t left at the venue.
I’m not sure how the miscommunication came about, but basically from what I saw that night is that people were quite busy mingling around, hence it was a bit hard to implement the games due to the fact that they were preoccupied. I just wish you told me at the time itself, and we could have worked out a contingency plan to make sure that booze gets to the bloggers in whatever fashion, and that everyone has a great time.
I hope I can talk to you over the phone soon to get this sorted, I still can’t reach you. In the meantime, thanks for your assistance again – I hope to be able to continue ties, but its up to you. Let me take this as an opportunity to offer my apologies to you, and the rest.
Daniel, thanks again for organizing a great gathering. Despite the hiccups, I believe that most had a great time, and a good opportunity to get to know more people – and you deserve credit for that. Cheers.
*gulp*
Josh Lim Okay, let me cool down for a bit first. Then I’ll look at the e-mail you sent to me and we’ll thrash it out if it’s worth it.
endroo G You missed the fun of getting to know people man.
Hmmmm…this Gallivanter sure loves his jug
hmm…at least i’ve gotten my free beer on stage + free beer hair treatment…
i wrote tons of shit here, but i deleted them, i felt that its best left umcommented …
daniel, lets do our own drinking session, no sponsors, buy your own drinks … k
and yeah its gonna be sad that i wont be able to join u guys for the langkawi booze session, see anyone who wans my ticket, just change the name and let them take my place and drink more booze for me …
Awwwww….Daniel it looked like it was a really fun event…you probably brought the fun out of everyone like you always do.
*hugs* Wish I was there to help you make some noise too…*clack**clack**clack*
WanderingSumandak Dangerous statement.
No comment. LOL.
charmayne Now you know why I’m bald? Years and years of playing beer drinking games.
earl-ku No worries man, can, when do you want to do it? Let you organize la – call it, “Kukujiao Alcohol : Straight From the Tap”.
Rudy It was a fun night, I immensely enjoyed it, wish there was more of me to go around, but then again, it might lead to chaos and spiritual destruction.
beer… anyone?
i would suggest we get a place, then all the beers are straight from the keg … everyone lines up, keep on on drinking till the keg is done, open up another keg, take turns … after 6 – 7 kegs … then everyone can go home …
or we could do a case day and document it
i hope you are ok.
suanie Hoegaarden and you got yourself a case!
earl-ku Sounds like a plan – I know someone who runs a pub which we can buy a barrel for a few hundred ringgit and have our own tap. Need to check first.
Lex I am, most of us had a good time at the meet. I was just battling behind the scenes that’s all. You know me.
So, ur gf the last pic? Sorry for asking.
6.30am…. wow! thanks for organising it man.
and wow… haha… did nuffnang pay u any commission?
earthy emily Yes, that’s her.
zewt LOL. You wish!
Advertats is so full of double-faced corporate malicious dooglegookery it’s just embarrassing and sad.
Noble as your intention is to sit on the fence, I think it should be known that anyone with a bit of reading at blogs such as tenthofmarch.com and even The Godfather of the Malaysian Blogosphere, jeffooi.com, will know what a malicious self-destructive knucklehead he is by trying to destroy the competition instead of just expanding the market.
Putting up silly and irresponsible lists? Masquerading as someone else to praise his own company? Making facetious claims? Ugly, really ugly.
@Mamak Mechanic Masterz
I’ve been holding back from commenting. Why did you “put me on the table”? LOL.
@Daniel
The way you drink (3rd photo), no amount of “sponsored beer” is enough. Seriously, I’ve never seen anyone drinking from a jug. Maybe that’s because I seldom go out. I might try it some day. Hahaha.
So.. after all this saga, is this Advertlet’s guy listed in “Sky Keep You”? Anyone? I’m just wondering….
I’m not following this closely but as everyone is dissing this Josh Lim… so I assume he is a crook. Empty promises in sponsorship? Hmm… then bloggers should know what to do… take down all their ads I’d guess. Whatever.
Dude, it’s me the antisocial surfer chick, sorry bout that night bro, I are antisocial….no lah…just shy lah.. anyways it was fun meeting you.
i was with 2 fellow bloggers friend @ bangsar before the event, and i decided the last minute of not joining it because “i think u the reason why” (weeks before i came here the bloggers booze banner was not tainted with green thing) until the last minute, then I decided to call it off.
When I sponsored RM600 worth of movie tickets during the Malaysian Bloggers Day, i fulfilled my words as organiser but too bad, “u know”…
daniel, let’s come out for a drink someday, not to say we got not money to buy jug beer… sanctuary happy hour is good!!! and my apology for not attending the last minute…
Oh well… It’s not easy to organise something especially something like this. That’s why I try my best not to organise things like “you order whatever you want, the sponsor will pay”. This will usually create a lot of problems. The better way to solve problem like this is ro tell the management up front to give the bill to the sponsor instead of the individual. All I can see is the miscommunication that happen. I will never never want to organise thing like this except the sponsor give me a budget and I get those ppl to prepare something of this budget which will save up a lot of works and misunderstandings. Summore with the booze, it’s not doing any good also.
However, you did a great job to have something different.
Just my two cents
C’mon guys…
I know, there are a lot of things that Advertlets have to learn, and maybe this booze gathering was one of the hard & painful way that Josh Lim have to learn. I was not there myself, but seeing our own bloggers smashing each others is not a good way to grow our community.
I received my first Advertlets check yesterday, after 3 months putting it in my blog. AFAIK, Josh is the guy who kept his promise.
Hey, maybe we just met him at a different junction of life. I may have ‘stumbled upon’ him, but unfortunately for you, Josh might accidentally ‘crash’ into you…
ps: I have personally ask Josh to be more careful. Cheers!
Mamak Mechanic Masterz Well, I don’t think Advertlets is that malicious. My only gripe with them was the lack of cooperation and the way the sponsorship was handled.
TenthOfMarch LOL. That jug of beer came from my own pocket, it’s actually 1/4 equivalent of a mug.
endroo G ? I don’t know about Josh Lim being a crook, think that could be a little OTT.
Fizah No problemo, the pleasure was mine, like I said, I’m addicted to socializing.
Mikemmery I didn’t know that there was so much hatred against Advertlets. Nevertheless, even after this, I’d still show myself for future meets eventhough Advertlets is sponsoring, because I’m all about expanding my social circle. But yes Mike, HAPPY HOUR @ Sanctuary sounds good – I can have my Kilkenny!
Irene Yeah, my thoughts exactly, it was my mistake to assume that the amount will be forked out up front, so I could organize something with Modesto’s to maximise the reach of booze, maybe a welcome drink. Thanks for your thoughts.
drizad Well, there are many things I’d like to say, but I shall bite my tongue, because whatever disagreement I’m having with Josh, it’s between me and him, though I felt socially responsible to let out a little. Cheers.
Great night! Thanks for organising, I really had so much fun! Cheers!
hey,
and I’ll keep my words
my apologies..I couldn’t make it due to family dinner at the very last minute. I’ll make up to you and buy you drinks too
haih.. missed it this time… when the next time?
Kenny Ng Cheers amigo!
jessbabe LOL, not a problem.
kamkuey No idea, I’m only looking at next year for Blogger Booze 2.
