These are some of the albums that I’ve heard in 2007 but never had the time to blog about it because of how average they were.
Akon – In My Ghetto
Nothing to shout about. A mediocre album by Akon’s standards. I think he should stop making his own albums and just appear on other artistes’ albums. The best track is “U Like My Swagga” which is pretty so-so. 3/10
The Starting Line – Direction
A band similar in the veins of New Found Glory, this album is not too tatty, but be warned, you can quickly get bored of it, like I did. Best tracks are “What You Want” and “Are You Alone”. 4/10
Daddy Yankee – El Cartel: The Big Boss
It’s decent, that’s it. Too many similar songs. The best one is the collaboration with Akon, “Bring it On”, which I blogged about it a few weeks ago. Also the latin-influenced “Coraza Divina”, and the duet with Nicole Scherzinger (Pussycat Dolls) called “Papi Lover”. 5/10
Sean Kingston – Sean Kingston
Crap album from a crap singer. “Beautiful Girls” is a rip-off of the famous “Stand By Me” that I blogged about it in early May. Ditch this wanker. 0/10
Crowded House – Time On Earth
Arguably Crowded House’s best album, but I still think they’re overrated. “Don’t Dream It’s Over” and “Weather With You” are annoying when you have them on the rewind. The most refreshing track on this album is “She Called Up”. Please retire. 2/10
Bob Marley & The Wailers – Roots Rock Remixed
Nothing but a remix to Bob Marley’s less commercial songs. A quite forgettable album, and a total waste of time by the recording company. Stop screwing with Bob Marley! The best song is “Soul Shakedown Party” an Afrodisiac Sound System Remix. 3/10
Shop Boyz – Rockstar Mentality
Refreshing. Unfortunately not good enough. It’s been a while since I heard a really good hip hop album. Their “surfer-60’s” influenced “Rollin” is the best song. I’m not into crunk music because it is annoying. 4/10
Elephant Man – Let’s Get Physical
Crap. The best track is the “I Will Survive” sampled “Willie Bounce” – it’s still a weak song. This is dancehall gone bad. Stay away. 1/10
Ozzy Osbourne – Black Rain
Love the metal sound on this record, unfortunately I think Ozzy Osbourne has a shitty voice for a rocker. Utter rubbish. Still, I love the track “I Don’t Wanna Stop”, not for it’s chorus or lyrics, but it’s sheer hook. Ozzy, that bat-eating stunt you pulled hasn’t improved you vocally. 3/10
Sarah Connor – Soulicious
I loved “Bounce”, a track released a few years ago. It was catchy in a Mary J Blige kind of way. Her latest album though, it’s really weak. “Son of a Preacher Man”, a remake, is the song that stands out the most. If a cover song is the best track on the album, you know it’s bad. 1/10
Toby Keith – Big Dog Daddy
“I Know She Hung the Moon” – the highlight of a unmemorable album. There’s nothing big dog about this album, daddy. 2/10
