2 January 2000 - 31st October 2007.

A job - nothing but repetitive hard work. I parted ways with my company of 8 years earlier this month and I’m looking forward to a new career challenge. Over the last year, I had to slog to office, execute the hours and then hotfoot home to breathe again. I got too comfy for my own good.

Enjoying Working Life

One of the most evidently significant fact is to preserve good working relationships. You have NO choice. Don’t criticize, don’t take things personal and fend off gossipmongers at all cost. You may find it problematical to get along with certain people, like I did. I coerced myself to see the person’s positive adequacies.

Always take pride in what you do. It’ll leave you feeling fulfilled and gives you the determination to work. Otherwise, it will be unsurmountable for you to enjoy your work. PLEASE, DO NOT take your work home. It’s not school. Prioritize your tasks and leave it at work.

Lunch break - break loose from the office. A change of environment usually helps me to clear my mind and reload my batteries. There’s always the enticement to drift from work and waste time. Let’s face it, EVERYONE procrastinates, the only difference is, the time of procrastination. Take short time offs, 10 minutes per hour, to spend time doing something productive for yourself - learn a new language perhaps or read some knowledge enriching articles.

Remember - you’re not a robot.

  16. Haizum Well, routine affects everyone, it’s just a matter of time. Hence holidays and breaks are vital to keep you sane. :-)

Kay Kastum Yes, it’s exciting and daunting at the same time. I can’t wait for the challenge.

Sha Thanks. I’m 2 months short of 8 years, but yeah, the first 6 years were explosive. Then I hit a plateau.

  19. I am. Its just that I’m sitting on a fence. To go or not to go. Thought of going travelling for a year and come back. But then it needs some money.

  20. very insightful dan. good tips for me too. like u i was also slogging at work and the new change of industry is a fresh breath of new air for me. i think the key is not to criticize the system or the management but focus on what you want to get out of that job. time spent too much complaining tends to make one lose their focus and determination. but i agree on the breaks. if u get good lunch partners then it’s great. currently i’m lunching with indons which is great because they really know how to break loose compared to the Malaysians who are in indon too…………

  21. You got it in one. I just hppe that while you do move on, we’ll still meet up like the old days. We had some damn good times there. So hopefully we’ll catch up in Waikiki.

    [Reply]

  22. Christine Thanks Christine. :-)

Mo It was indeed a pleasure to have you on the team. And what a great team we had. :-)

endroo G Traveling does sound great, but I guess you need to weigh the pros and cons. You can’t be sitting on the fence if you’re looking for a change. Pick a side and go for it.

tihtahpah I’m happy to know that things are working out for you. A change will do us nothing but good if we focus on the positives. :-)

Diarmuid Definitely, we can still meet up since Waikiki Too is nearby.
