Taken from Story of the Year’s third album, “The Black Swan”, which I personally thought was a noisy welcome to rock music, except the first song where he does the metal scream. I always thought metal bands who scream like someone has shoved pineapple up their arses, are so lame.
This is a good album for those who love rock music with an angst. Of all the songs, 2 stood out for me - “Tell Me” and this ballad of the album, “Terrified”. The theme borders around human existence and how insignificant it is compared to the universe, with all the pointless wars, fighting and killing. I always love themes like this, where is speaks about living life to the fullest.
Hence my love for Bon Jovi. The album gets a 7/10 on the Gallivanter scale.
Story of the Year - Terrified
Here in this town, safe and guarded
We call it home, a feeling that we share
Now leave this place, clinging to hope
In this midnight prayer
If we hold our breath, float beyond this
We’ll be reborn, I will carry us home
Are you still alive? Are you scared inside?
Providence is blind when you’re terrified
Are you still alive? Are you scared inside?
When we’ve reached the end of the road
I will carry us home
Oh no, if all our sin was only a hope
And meaningless and true
Now, will I expire holding the wound
In safety for you
If we make it through and I can save you
With this heart I know, I will carry us home
And now I’m so far away from you
Will I be making any difference after leaving you all alone?
And now I’m so far away from home
Can I justify my actions after leaving you here in this town?
Safe and guarded, we call it home
A feeling that we shared

One Response for "Story of the Year - Terrified"
[...] 11 May Another song that I like from this hard-rock band, Story of the Year. I love the hook to it, sometimes I end up day-dreaming that I’m on the lead guitar jamming in a rock concert. This is one of those adrenalin-rushing songs. I reviewed the latest album and blogged about “Terrified”. [...]
