This ballad was written in 1977. It became Hill’s biggest hit, with a few other artistes covered the song. I’m sure it’s one of the most sung tunes in Karaoke clubs. I can imagine the locals singing it with heavy oriental accents, drowning the “r”s. Whatever it is, how you want to remember this song, is up to you. But, you can’t deny the catchy tune.

Dan Hill - Sometimes When We Touch

You ask me if I love you
And I choke on my reply
I’d rather hurt you honestly
Than mislead you with a lie
And who am I to judge you
On what you say or do?
I’m only just beginning to see the real you

And sometimes when we touch
The honesty’s too much
And I have to close my eyes and hide
I wanna hold you til I die
Til we both break down and cry
I wanna hold you till the fear in me subsides

Romance and all its strategy
Leaves me battling with my pride
But through the insecurity
Some tenderness survives
I’m just another writer
Still trapped within my truth
A hesitant prize fighter
Still trapped within my youth

  1. I love this song! Sometimes sing it at karaoke. Listening to it gives me a nostalgic feeling of my childhood. I also sometimes play this song on the piano cos it’s so tuneful.

  6. I was quite late into the karaoke game, and when I finally came back to Sabah in the early 90s, I sung this song to the death in verious joints in KK which mostly do not exist anymore.

So much so, you’d never catch me singing this song on karaoke ever again, not even at home ;-)

  8. ben LOL. I know what you mean. My period of loving this song was really short. Now, each time I hear it, I can imagine some Ah Beng or Ah Lian destroying it. :-P
