Will Smith a GERMAN fan like me? (in Germany for HANCOCK premiere)

As predicted, Turkey defeated Croatia, Russia destroyed Holland. As hoped, Germany ousted Portugal. Tournament by tournament, teams like Holland, Spain and Portugal flatter to deceive. They usually do really well in the group stages and then wither away when it matters the most.

Unlike Germany and Italy, who are extremely experienced in tournament winning mentality. Come semi-finals, you’d expect these 2 giants would be there. As the saying goes, when Germans play badly, they’re in the final, when Germans play well, they win it.

That Croatia game seems like a blip, a wake up call for Germany. I watched the Portugal match and easily could pick out 4 outstanding Germans - Lahm, Ballack, Podolski and Schweinsteiger. 3 match winners and arguably one of the best attacking backs in recent years. Is that good enough to win the EURO? I hope so, based on their raised game against Portugal, ala Germany 2006.

However, Turkey cannot be underrated. If it goes to penalties, I’m confident Germany would make the final, seeing that when it comes to penalties, I can’t recall Germany ever losing one (at least not when I started supporting them during the 1990 tournament after they blasted Yugoslavia).

With a place in the final beckoning, I expect Germany to give 110% to reach it. After that, who knows. I’ve been waiting since 1996 for another taste of victory, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
