The Work Burnout Test

All of us go through a dip of motivation at a number of stages in our working lives. Sometimes, we sit at the desktop, staring blankly, and wished we were somewhere else. It could be 2 reasons – laziness or burnout.
If the first thing you do when you come in to work, is to browse for non-work stuff, that probably means that you’re warming up. Some of us, the minute we get into work, jump straight into the tasks at hand.
If the first thing you do is feeling like pulling your head or banging it on the computer screen, it’s time for a recharge.
How do you know if you’re suffering from which reason? Test yourself. Close all non-work related stuff and set a timer for 10 minutes. For that 10 minutes, solely concentrate on work.
After the time is up, see where you are, if you’re stuck with work, that means you’ve overcome a laziness bout. But, if that 10 minutes feel like a lifetime, that means a rest is due.

hehehe! When I am concentrating on work instead of ‘multi-tasking’ work n non-work stuff, the time usually breeze thru like a sports car.

JenJen – Yeah, I don’t believe there is such a thing called multi-tasking, especially when it requires thinking.
sheela – We can’t work for 3 hours straight, but sometimes, there are moments when we are caught up with work. I prefer it that way, when there’s always something to do.
Christopher – Cool, though I don’t use FB at work at all. Not a big fan of FB already.
massy – A lazy bum who loves to jog? Liar.
xin – Like your morning coffee eh?
One Other – Wow, your category brings a whole new meaning to multi-tasking. Maybe multi-jumbled?
Harmony – Of course. This is to test yourself, to see if you’re suffering from a burnout.
AngelBear – It depends, are you easily bored or are you tired all the time?
pirut – I am relaxed, to a certain extent, it comes with age. Unfortunately, my relaxation doesn’t improve my patience.
wel – Like you, I prefer non-stop work too, where there is always something to do, because at the end of the day, you’ll go home feeling content, that you have achieved something at work today.
chegu carol – What’s your energy? Sirap bandung ka?
papajoneh – I can imagine Papa J, one day, I shall experience it myself.

Ok, a rest is due now, haha. But I have a question, what if you feel you need to take a rest every 5 mins? Is that laziness or burned out?

WanWan – Yeah, I get my water break thrice a day too, release water and consume water. LOL!
Faiez – Every 5 minutes? Hmmm, depending on work and motivation. Is it due to lack of motivation or stress? The answer lies there.
foongpc – LOL!
claire bennet – Yeah, I do a similar thing too, read up the sports news first followed by Malaysian tabloids like NST & TheStar in the morning.
jppmom – I don’t have experience in that area yet oh, so I can’t help you.

Depends… I usually surf for non-work related stuffs first (like 15mins or so) mainly because am waiting for all the 100+ work emails coming in then I’ll read it one by one. Once I start concentrating on work, I won’t stop until it’s lunch time!
But after makan… haih…. I need to warm up first… Lols!

Olie – Yeah, the noon and evening batch are different. I get twice a day, morning and evening. Maybe I should spam myself so my boss will give me a holiday like you.
Rozella – Laziness, it quietly zaps your motivation.
