Commuting to Work – Time Spent on the Road

How much time do you spend each day traveling to and from your work? I spent an average of 40 minutes one way which translates to 1 hour and 20 minutes on the road. On occasions, it can go up to an hour, and that will usually make me restless.
It’s OK if I have NEW music to listen to and review to put up on my gallivantism.com blog, but if there’s no new material, I would get edgy, especially confronting idiotic drivers on the road.
From Shah Alam to my office in PJ, it’s exactly 15km and heading back is a little longer by 3km. I’m sure there are some out there who travel more than 90 minutes one way!
It can be for many different reasons, from not being able to afford a place nearby the office to a better quality of life – bigger house, bigger law, less traffic gridlock, less crime and more natural settings.

Unfortunately, the longer time spent driving, the more risk that you become expose to road rage. You will develop violent behaviors that also affects your health in the long run – from heart attacks to strokes to ulcers.
Hence, I would suggest if your work place takes more than 45 minutes one way, either shift closer towards your office or get yourself a new job. In hindsight, it will help you in the long run by not turning into a green monster.

Even a 5 minutes travel can be a ‘honk!’ of a journey…

Over here, many folks regularly commute 30mins (my husband and all my brother in laws) with many doing 45mins-1 hours every day. Not because of jam, but simply distance.

It takes me a little under half an hour to get to work. But then I leave for work after 9am every day so I don’t really have to face moronic drivers

It took my abt 20mins in the morning (6.15am-6.35am)via highway to reach the sch whr I taught…goin back abt 30mins or more, depending on wht time I got back…all in all 30km return journey. I guess d traffic here in KK is not as bad (yet) as in KL & Selangor…

15km for 40 minutes?!!! That’s a really ridiculous amount of time spent on the road if its only for a mere 15 km.

cicak – Good to know, hence my longing to live in Sabah one day.
Nadia – What bus? You mean Malaysian bus system? Hahahahahaha!
guong – But the chances of honking is lesser than a longer journey.
Jewelle – I wouldn’t mind traveling a distance WITHOUT jam.
Nick Phillips – Yeah, my previous job was flexible that it allowed me to start work at 9:30am, but the current one is at 8:30am hence not much of choice.
Miss Mathew – That’s not bad.
charlenediane – Yeah, tell me about it. 40 minutes is considered “fast” because I use the busiest highway in Malaysia – The Federal.
tihtahpah – That’s too short to drive la, might as well you cycle to work.
