The Dream ft Mariah Carey – My Love 7/10
The Dream’s best song is with Gym Class Heroes in “Cookie Jar”. Other than that, there’s nothing much that shone with all of his previous works. However in this collaboration with the tittilating Mariah, it sounds like a good hit in the making.
Seether – Careless Whisper 6/10
How many people have released cover versions of this classic Wham track? From Tamia to Bananarama to Dave Koz to Gloria Gaynor to Julio Iglesias to Jordan Knight to Kenny G to Barry Manilow to Tom Dick & Harry. It’s been remade, modified, insulted, violated, sped up, and now, rocked the hell up!
Sway feat Akon – Silver & Gold 7/10
OK, finally Akon’s music is starting to sound similar. That’s what happens when you keep releasing new music EVERY SINGLE WEEK! My Akon collection has now swelled up to 15 songs, and this makes song number 16.
My favorite song of 2009 so far is Akon’s Day Dreaming with Snoop Dogg and TI with DJ Drama putting it all together. That song if marketed right, would be a mega dega chattanooga choo choo hit!
Nelly Furtado – I Gotta Know 6/10
I used to dislike listening to “I’m Like a Bird” as it was mildly annoying. Since then, she kept churning hit after hit that swelled my collection of music – “Powerless”, “Maneater”, “Promiscuous Girl” and that classic duet with Timberlake in “Give it to Me”.
She’s back with her latest track and it’s one of those songs that you have to listen to it a couple of times before really liking it. From the sound of it, I’m expected it to enjoy a decent amount of radio airtime.
Claude Kelly – Waste My Time 7/10
Claude Kelly has previously written songs for Leona Lewis, Britney Spears, Jay Sean, Kelly Clarkson, Akon and Brandy. From Kelly Clarkson’s “My Life Would Suck Without You” to Lemar’s “If She Knew” to Britney Spears’ “Circus”, this dude probably now decided to venture on his own.
There’s a handful of his tunes that is available now, but all of the tracks by him, this stands out as the best track. It’s pretty cute song more in a boyish mode kind of way. It has a little inkling of Shayne Ward.
Flo Rida feat Wynter – Sugar 7/10
I can hardly wait for Flo Rida’s next album that I think will be a mega-success. This would be Flo Rida’s second album, called “R.O.O.T.S” which is an acronym for ”Route Of Overcoming The Struggle”.
“Right Round” & “Touch Me” that I blogged about earlier is already flying up the charts worldwide. I’m expecting this song would do well too. The inspiration behind this album is from his trip to Africa.
Lionel Richie ft Trijntje Oosterhuis – Face In The Crowd 7/10
The best song off his latest effort has got to be that duet with Akon called “Just Go”. It’s a pretty laidback track and a must have for you music enthusiasts out there.
The second track worthy to be part of your music collection is this duet with some orange Dutchie wutchie whose name I can’t pronounce. Can’t she choose a simpler name like Tina or Trisha? Don’t get me started with her surname. Anyway, this track is easy on the ears.
Keri Hilson – How Does it Feel 7/10
Timbaland’s at it as usual, introducing his trademark beat and trumpet-infused melodies. That’s the highlight of this track, and it’s the best song on Keri Hilson’s latest album. If you like dancing to good music, this one’s for you.
It will slowly grow on you, especially if you dig Timbaland’s productions. Of course it’s nowhere as good as his best produced tracks but it’s a worthy addition to your music collection.
Jadyn Maria ft Flo Rida – Villain 7/10
The beat’s catchy, and of course, when you have Flo Rida on your side, chances are the track would be a worthy listen. Flo Rida and T-Pain are easily the best rappers today with their distinctive and catchy style rapping. The rest are just bollocks. The tune doesn’t jump on you like a dog humping a leg, but after a while, you know why the dog does it and you probably acclimatize yourself to its beat that you don’t mind being the leg or the dog – whichever floats your boat.
Jonessa – Haunted 7/10
I kinda dig this tune, another easy listening R&B. Staying power? I doubt it but it’s one of those that you don’t mind listening to it every now and then. The verses does not sound unique but overall its quite good.
The beat is a suped up version of Rihanna’s Take a Bow. I would recommend this track to all you R&B loving fans out there. It’s one of the better songs out there by a newbie.
Laze & Royal ft Tyler Sherritt – Marilyn Monroe 7/10
What’s the big deal about Marilyn Monroe? I don’t find her interesting at all, but perhaps back then, there weren’t many women who flash them titties in media. Sex sells.
Mix hip hop with alternative and you’re in for cunt-fused nightout, but if you’re eclectic like me, then being cunt-fused is never the case. The chorus is kinda hauntingly catchy, but I wonder how would ladies react when your men come up to you and say, “Sweetheart, you’re my Marilyn Monroe”?
Danny Gokey – Jesus Take the Wheel 7/10
Another awesome rendition by the favorite of the current American Idol competition, Danny Gokey. I just find his glasses annoying. The raw emotions that he puts into the songs he sings makes him a frontrunner.
The only quandary I have about him is whether he could sing different ranges of tunes instead of hitting the power notes all the time to continue to win the hearts of voters.
Anoop Desai – Always on My Mind 7/10
What a breathtaking surprise to hear Anoop’s take on this. It is not easy to cover this tune because it’s just one of those that you would not cover because the original artist hit the ball out of the park.
It’s pleasing to know that Anoop has a serious side to him as well, because his previous 2 efforts were kinda comical. He’s definitely one of the darkhorses though I doubt he’ll win it come crunch time. Still, a great rendition.
Jet Black – Stare in this Life 7/10
This band has similarities to 3 Doors Down, Staind, Hinder, Puddle of Mudd, Theory of a Deadman, Saliva and Seether – most are top-notch bands with several belters. Hinder to me is one of the best rock acts in this decade although they are only 2 albums in.
I suggest you give this rock song a chance, and tell me what you think by leaving comments so I could base my future post on your feedbacks. Nah, I’m just kidding, but leave your comments anyway.
Keith Urban – My Heart is Open 6/10
No wonder I like this tune, it was co-written by John Shanks, the producer who contribute to Bon Jovi’s 2005 album, Have a Nice Day. As usual, Keith Urban has rarely disappoint with his signature country tunes.
But obviously, country tunes rarely have any staying power these days, because it’s just that, the genre is one of those kinds where you would kick back in the back seat of you car watching the sunset on a Sunday reflecting on your life. It’s almost as good as his 2005 effort, almost.
Lee Carr – Cameras Don’t Lie 7/10
Who the hell is Lee Car? A licka? There’s not much information on him available and hence I shall just concentrate on the song instead. I know though it’s a Jordin Spark’s demo and good thing that she didn’t sing this, because I think Jordin Sparks is the weakest of the American Idol winners. Pathetic.
I like this number as it has an infectious chorus, it’s uncomplicated yet melodious. Nice touch by whoever this fella is. If you do know him, please contact 1-800-someone-that-gives-a-damn.
Flo Rida feat Wyclef Jean – Rewind 8/10
Awesome. It’s a mixture of Black Eyed Peas’ Where is the Love with Leona Lewis’ Better in Time chorus. It also reminds me of that Wyclef Jean’s Perfect Gentleman. You would think that too many similarities might just overcook the tune. I beg to differ.
There is still room for this kind of laid back catchy hiphop music. And Flo Rida is in his usual element. I heard his latest album already, and the best tracks are the remakes – “Right Round”, “Sugar”, “Touch Me” and this original tune, “Rewind”.
