I Saw Arsene Wenger at Dataran Merdeka for the Castrol Football Coaching Session!

If you can see me now, I’m grinning from ear to ear that would put the Joker to shame. Wenger’s visit to Malaysia wasn’t publicized much, and thanks to my colleague, who spotted a lilliputian section of the back page of the NST newspaper last week, I called my Arsenal compadre to confirm the news!

Until Monday, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go. I’ve been supporting Arsenal for 19 years so who was I bloody kidding? I put on my Arsenal shirt, left my office at 11am to Dayabumi. I then parked the car and dashed across to Dataran Merdeka hoping that I didn’t miss his arrival. I didn’t.

Arsene Wenger's Arrival at Dataran Merdeka - I was THAT Close!
I was energized to catch a glimpse of the man who symbolizes Arsenal. And boy I did! The short wait was worth it for me, despite basking in the terrible heat plus haze with some other 300+ fans.
Thanks to my ties with Anand, I got inside the ground with 50 supporters for a group photo session with Arsene Wenger! Unfortunately, I was positioned too much at the side, however the reason I did that because I was clean-shaven (NO GOATEE!). Yes, I had a shaving mishap! LOL!

Fans Outside the Football Enclosure while I was INSIDE!

I was holding the Arsenal plaque at the photo session

Arsene Wenger acknowledging the Arsenal supporters (including me!)
It was indeed an unforgettable experience to be able to get this close to Arsene Wenger.

Sing it with me, (in the tune of Guantanamera)
One Arsene Wenger! There’s Only One Arsene Wenger!

oh well..everything about Arsenal is tiny…although Arsene came down to KL himself…if it’s MU, Liverpool or Chelsea, it will be on the front page…

life4hire – No, nothing about Arsenal is tiny, is just that Castrol wanted to keep this under wraps because of crowd control. So, the news was only spread on the last day, a week after the Arsenal Supporters Club of Malaysia knew about it.
claire bennet – LOL!
Mouren –
See, it’s better than “Glory Glory Man United”, because technically it should be “Glory Glory Manchester United”, not so nice now is it? LOL!
Alv0808 – It was!
Amresh – Aisay, you should’ve just come up to me to say hello!
edrie – If Mourinho came down, jealous Manure fans would probably come to annoy him.
zeff – Wow, excellent, I was only there for less than an hour!
Pinknpurplelizard – Who’s Ferguson? You mean Purge-son or Fuckerson?
idysur tagem – Yo!
Nick Phillips – Ya man! Don’t be jealous, one day when we meet, I let you shake my hand, so I can pass the chi. LOL!
cicak – There were loads of them, but when Wenger arrived, it was obvious that when push comes to shove, we men rate football higher than our women.
tekkaus – Oh yes!
AnnieMing – Don’t be!
sheela – No idea, you a big Arsenal fan ka?
Adek Fabregas – Yikes, it did state to be there by 11:30am. I left my office at 11am.
