Dan Brown – The Lost Symbol (A Review)
SharePosted on 06. Oct, 2009 by Gallivanter in Books, Reviews
Maybe I had high expectations after “Angels & Demons” and “Da Vinci Code” became my 2 favorite books of all time. I only have one word to describe Dan Brown’s latest book – lost! The book title regrettably summarizes the story, “The Lost Plot” would’ve been a better depiction.
Dan Brown is renowned for infusing facts into his books but he appears to have petered out of ideas for “The Lost Symbol”. Sometimes, I get the impression that he wrote the book just for the sake of it, to ride on his popularity.
It took over a 100 pages of the hardcover for the action to start. It was allmerry-go-round buildup that it left me with a “come-on-get-on-with-it” feeling. Facts were few and far in between. Maybe it’s just me but there’s nothing fascinating about Masons despite Dan Brown’s endeavor to flog it.
Previously, I completed both “Angels & Demons” & “Da Vinci Code” in less than 4 days for each book. I even relished the politically-charged “Deception Point”.
It became too much of a mediocre thriller in the end, which made Dan Brown look very “normal” (he’s human after all!), as formulaic as writers like James Patterson. The plot was fallible and the storytelling just did not have Dan Brown’s pizazz.
“The Lost Symbol” revolves around religion quite unconvincingly. My verdict, skip this book to ensure your fondness of “Angels & Demons” and “The Da Vinci Code” remain intact.

Dan Brown - The Lost Symbol

Woah really? too bad. Still haven’t decide whether I want to read Lost Symbol. The book seems thick. I like A&D the most.

Haha..finished reading this book in 3 days. I have to say it’s not as good as Angels and Demons but to me, it’s better than the Da Vinci Code.
Anyway, i still enjoy reading The Lost Symbol. It does provide some fresh outlook.

synical – I have to agree.
keeman – OK, though I still think it’s a stinker compared to “Da Vinci Code” and “Angels & Demons”. To each their own I suppose.
