Guy Sebastian – Like It like That (Album Review)

This dude’s voice is very similar to the lead singer of Maroon 5. I never really rated him previously because I thought his attempt at songs were very safe, thus terribly boring. His latest album is a more soulful effort and I can say that I thought it’s alright, definitely an improvement from his first garbage of an album. At least he’s moving up the music chain, albeit slowly.

He’s the ex-Aussies’ Idol and I like his first song…can’t remember the title. He has a great voice!

Guy has that rich luscious soul voice – his signature!
I love this album – it also has 3 tracks where John Mayer lends his vocals and guitar playing to the album as well as having Jordin Sparks on there doing a duet ‘Art of Love’ – incredible vocals from them both.
‘Like it Like That’ track is a standout and the rest of the album is just fabulous and on repeat in the house and car.
9 out of 10 from me on this Guy Sebastian’s fifth studio album. After 7 years still going strong – Go Guy!!!

Christopher – He does, but his first album was a dud.
Pammie – Haha!
Chelsey – I don’t know about that, he still has a long way to go before he gets into my good books.

I can’t believe I bought this cd. I heard the song Like it like That and it was catchy. I read some reviews about the album and thought “ok” maybe I’ve been missing something? So the second time I listened to Like it like That it reminded me of a famous cola commercial type jingle. So I listened to all the ballads. Full of baybeeee and lurv stuff and some hot young girl singer joining in. I really tried to like his music … but on the same day I received a Supertramp album, Eric Clapton album and a Chicago album … yes I admit I am a child of the 70′s. And here’s the thing. Those albums reeked originality, talent, memorability and gorgeous musical structure. Have a listen to Guy Sebastian … look at the funky beard and hat and tattoos … consider his Jesus and ginger beer upbringing at the AOG Paradise in good old Adelaide, South Australia and you will put together a picture of a moderately talented young man who has learnt to self promote and peddle sugar and spice. But he’s chasin’ the dollar and tailoring his music to suit. Why not? The record companies are paying for him to fly around on big silver birds to places like Memphis and New your and he’s having a ripper of a time. And he’s got talent. But well it’s a sell out. And when you listen to the music, because you can’t feel it stir your soul, you just know he’s been bought. I really wanted to like what I heard but I’ve come away uninspired. And if music doesn’t inspire, it ends up being elevator music. I’m surprised I feel like this because I have nothing but admiration for the young guy but he’s not the real deal …
