Working at Home – A Recession Saver
[ad]
Imagine if there’s a real solution to us working at home? Of course the details needs to be worked out, especially with Asians being generally smartasses in finding loopholes.
It can really be liberating to skip rush hour, save car maintenance and petrol expenses! The onus is for you to be SELF-DRIVEN.
How can it work? Well, I thought about it on the surface. Each of us who opts to work at home should have 15 to 20 objectives per week and a report submitted on a daily basis. 70% of those objectives MUST be met with a resounding YES.
If 70% is not achieved, then you head back to the office in the following week. But, if you consistently achieve 70%, you may continue to stay at home for 3 out of 5 working days.
The objectives must not be as silly as “follow up” or “call person A” or “pack buntings”. It has to be decent objectives like “close business deal”, “review and finalize agreement” or “discuss business objectives and commercials”.
Video conferencing could be implemented with an online tracking system, keeping track of your time spent, e-mails sent, work objectives and daily updates. Sure, you may lie and use a friend to do it for you or lie to say that you have achieved your 70%. Lies like those will come to surface sooner or later, and then you’re fucked.
Instead of company paying for travel allowances, just grant internet allowance of RM100 and phone allowance too. These days, there are cheaper ways to save on phone bills. I always use the 132 on my Maxis line to call overseas. There are also other tools like Skype or MSN etc.
You must be contactable during “office hours” at home. If you cannot be reached, then the management will decide whether you should report back to office in the following week.
I’m sure there are a number of areas that needs to be looked at too, but what do you think about the concept in general? Can it be made a reality?
Anyone has a better idea on how to implement a successful work-at-home program?

i wish i can work at home.. with the same pay i have now…or more…
I need ideas for home-base bizz, less pay then wat i’m getting now also no prob, at least I can save on petrol and no more lunch outside. Makan ikan masin pun boleh
I tried working from home once but the bed was just too much of a temptation … LOL! Sadly I have no discipline
i like the idea of working from home. Save us a lot on expenses..but like Nick said, we need to have discipline..

can we like further improvise this and send it to the mgmt????
yeah, webcam is a must if ur working from home! and having a unified call log, meaning all out going and in coming calls will be recorded to ensure that it is highly effective too.
if only…. but i believe anything that is thinkable, can happen!
shirley aka beautiza – Wish it was that easy.
lvynana – I love ikan masin!
Nick Phillips – The bed sounds evurl.
mama mia – Exactly, discipline is key.
Fei – Sure, why don’t you put this up on the forum? See what happens.
Telecommuting is certainly growing. My company DiGi is already doing it, having started by thinking of ways to ensure productivity and accountability remain high, while keeping unnecessary travel (and presence at the office when not really required) low.
Management has to ask itself a question: Do you Mr Employee have to earn our trust before we allow this to happen, or do we say “OK, you’re a decent guy. We’ll choose to trust you now, and if it becomes a problem later, we’ll deal with it…”
Keropok – Indeed. But at least offer this option to people who DESERVE it for all the work they have consistently put in and successfully delivered.
i don’t have better ideas but i just wanna say that it’s BETTER working at/from home!! ;p
been doing it the last 4 years.
and lovin’ it!!!
AngelitaAtractivo – I can imagine. The key here is self discipline.
how nice, wish i can work from home too.
lvynana – We all do.
