Black Eyed Peas Arthur's Day Celebration Malaysia

We only arrived there at 9pm and the crowd swelled just in time to witness the kick-ass Black Eyed Peas rocking the set after 10:30pm. Remember my cuss on the obscure makeweight artistes that made the Arthur’s Day performing list? I take it back! It gave us time to ingest Guinness Stout while awaiting the real thing, Black Eyed Peas!

Booze was RM10 per pop and I had about 6 (well, 5 actually as I left 3/4 on some wooden garbage container in Sunway – when we ate steamboat – mmmm…quail eggs).

My only gripe is that we weren’t allowed to bring the booze into the concert area but that didn’t matter as I was spiritually intoxicated in the nick of time to trip the light fantastic with the Black Eyed Peas.  Songs include “Let’s Get it Started”, “Shut Up”, “Don’t Phunk With My Heart”, “Pump It”, “Big Girls Don’t Cry”, “Where Is The Love”, “Boom Boom Pow” and “I Gotta Feeling”.

Guinness Stout is a much more classy booze than beer will ever be. Mix it with the Black Eyed Peas and you have on your hands a potent concoction that will vivify your soul. This was Black Eyed Peas 4th visit to Malaysia and I hope there would be many more to come! It’s time we replace regular visitors like the boring “Air Supply” and retarded “Michael Learns to Rock” with something energetic.

The fireworks display in the end summed up the night – perfection. Oh and by the way, TO ARTHUR!

Shortly after the game at the Laundry, Mel, Ravind & I adjourned to Sanctuary, a club that I used to haunt for a few months before I met Mel. I met Mel for the first time outside Sanctuary, at the end of May 2007. It was a start of something fantastic.

Ravind and I bought Lorraine her first, Flaming Lamborghini, and then the other guys start to buy her the same drink too. Lorraine, the birthday girl, bought 5 bottles of Johnny Walker Black Label for her party! Crazy!

I met a number of Mel’s Sabahan friends, as well as made a few friends myself and further expanded my Facebook list of compadres. It was an OK event, and only fortify my impression that Sabahans are the friendliest of Malaysians.

The venue was Cempaka Square. Papa J, once again, picked Mel & I from her mom’s place @ Kepayan Ridge and we were there shortly after 9pm. I texted a bunch of peeps, Olie, Josie, Radzie, Ishak, Pai and they all showed up, with Alice, Audrey, Ramesh, Alvin & Helen. 13 bloggers ROCKED Cempaka Square for 3 hours.

It was such a fun night, there were NO traces of shyness that was synonymous with Sabahans in the past. This is the dawn of new-breed Sabahans, having fun! It was great, and I was especially taken away with that “Poco Poco” song, that I’m still having a tough time trying to find the tune off the internet. If any of you have that song, please do drop me an e-mail.

It was a pity that the original gang couldn’t join, Dinoza & Amy went to KL for something urgent, whereas Jacq & Wei Chuen were at Atmosphere on the same night. Nevertheless, it was one of those nights where you look back at say, “Damn! That was so much fun!”.

It’s located on Jalan Kia Peng, next to the HLA building and ORANGE club. There is no cover charge and a JD bottle is priced at RM280++ while a jug of Tiger’s at RM52++. Mel and I arrived shortly after 11pm, but was told that they were having a private party organized by Celcom and that we had to wait until 11:30pm to get in.

So that we did, I started with a mug of Tiger while Mel had her favorite Bailey’s on the rocks. After going inside, we noticed that the emcees for the night, one of them was Hannah Tan. Personally, I never rated her – not my type whatsoever. From a distance where we were sitting, she looked hot.

But when she passed us by and Mel managed to get her to pose for a shot, she looked like a floozie. Borneo Baruk Club, I heard it mentioned quite a few months ago, but I never had the urge to pay it a visit until last night.

The verdict? An embarrassment of the highest order to the name “Borneo”, because their definition of latest songs included “Give it to Me” featuring Nelly, Timberlake and Timbaland. That was as latest as they come. This is my first and last time clubbing (or the lack of) at this joint, hence I recommend that you avoid this joint at all cost (unless management change) and spend your money watching trees grow.

3 Flaming Lamborghinis. 1 Gin & Tonic. 1 Sex on the Beach. 1 B-52. 1 pint of beer. And a few glasses of Chivas & Ginger Ale. Result = PLASTERED. I had a massive hangover, akin to the one back in 1998 when I celebrated my 21st birthday where I got drunk out of my mind in 2 hours!

This time around, it took me 4 hours before I went bye bye. As usual, when I go really really drunk, I end up being emotional, and somehow always relate to my late dad, who I can’t seem to let go of the pain of not having him in my life, since October 1986.

Well, to those who came (20 plus people), thank you for being a part of my 30th birthday celebration. Next up, 40.
