American Idol Bon Jovi Week

As Izad said, Bon Jovial. Yes, their songs are inspiring, the storytellers of rock that has intoxicated millions of souls around the world. The ONLY reason I would watch AMERICAN IDOL. I caught the 6pm show last night, wanted to watch the 11:30pm but the rain got in the way. I like how Jon inflects about each of the contestants.

Bon Jovi American Idol

Phil – Blaze of Glory
What a way to start the show. Though he lacks that rock-edge voice that Bon Jovi has, he made this song (the song that turned me into a Bon Jovi fan) his own – ala country version. It’s never easy covering a Bon Jovi song, because of the vocal variations – the highs and lows. 7/10

Jordin – Livin’ On A Prayer
She sucked. I didn’t like her interpretation of the song. It was poorly presented, she should’ve opted for a slower number like Bed of Roses. I’d vote her out based on this performance alone. 2/10

LaKisha – This Ain’t A Love Song
Pitchy at the beginning, but got kissed from Simon Cowell. I liked her bluesy rendition of this song. Like Jon Bon Jovi said, this song’s meant for a soulful singer, from their soul-filled THESE DAYS album. Decent effort. 7/10

Blake – You Give Love A Bad Name
When Jon said, Blake’s “rolling the dice” with this one, I dreaded the worst. A song which is engrafted into the hearts of rock lovers, was about to given a beat-box makeover. Love it or hate it, it was original. Kudos to him for taking a risk. Having said that, this is a singing contest, else I would’ve given him an 8. 6/10

Chris – Wanted Dead Or Alive
He doesn’t have what it takes. He lacks personality, and the way he answered that question before his performance, was a clear indication that this guy’s supposed to be in Akademi Fantasia. He failed to hit that blue note in the lyrical content, as Jon aptly puts it. 4/10

Melinda – Have A Nice Day
The title track of Bon Jovi’s last album. She did a Tina Turner, full of attitude and soul – “something something”. It certainly helped to get the gist of the song across. A commendable rendition, nothing to shout about. I’d say, keep her. 6/10

My vote – Chris and Jordin to go. Looking forward to tonight’s show, just so see which new song Bon Jovi would introduce, Make a Memory or Lost Highway. Personally, I wanna see them sing ANY OTHER DAY.

Once Bon Jovi week is over, I’m not gonna watch AMERICAN IDOL again, cause looking at these 6, not a single one stands out. Blech.
