David Cook vs David Archuleta – 2008 Album Reviews

I’m somewhat disappointed with David Cook’s new self-titled album. I rooted for him all the way to the pinnacle of American Idol last season, only to see him deliver something which is so average that it will not go down well with the critics and fans alike. Some fans will be determined to like it, not because of the greatness of the songs, but simply because it’s David Cook.
His first single, “Light On” is so bloody wish wash. Nonsense, coming from an artist with so much star potential. Why the hell did he not record his American Idol final song, “Dream Big”, that had star power written all over it. Balls.
If you point a gun to my head and ask me a pick out Cook’s next single, I’d go with a song called “Permanent”, it has a haunting feel to it, just him, the piano and some pleasant string arrangement that showcases his singing.
Even David Archuleta’s new album is rubbish too. Too bubble gum feel to it. Yes, he is still young, but I get the feeling he will never veer away from bubble gum pop for as long as he churns out records. His genre is for the teenie boppers and the gay people of this world. I dislike it because it is not original. There’s nothing unique about it whatsoever. After the first round of listening, you’d throw the CD into the garbage dump and say, “Next!”.
He’s so mushy that it annoys me. I’ve always had this urge to imprint my handprints on his face. If you point a gun to my head and ask me to pick out Archuleta’s next single, I’d tell you, “Just pull the trigger.”
The winner, is David Cook, but only just, thanks to “Permanent”.

I’m a David Cook fan but to be honest I haven’t heard his new album just yet so I can’t be too judgmental but I’ll take your word for it
Haven’t listen to both albums yet, so cannot judge. But the song snippets of Permanent sound quite good, though must listen to the whole song first before commenting. David Archuleta is more suited for bubble bum pop I guess, so if you don’t like that kind of music, you won’t enjoy his album. To me, Chris Daughtry is better than both. I love his “What About Now” song and still loving it : )

exactly! everyone has high hope on david cook to deliver much better performance and album after his success in the American Idol.
but I guess he has been overshadowed by David Archuleta’s recent songs uuh?
Haha.. Bubble Gum David Archuleta. I prefer David Cook too, though I admit I’m rather disappointed with his debut album. I wonder whether he face the same predicament as Bo Bice.

foongpc – Well, it depends on what kind of bubble gum, if it is someone like Taylor Swift, then I like! Archuleta is just too wimpy for my liking. Daughtry is not bad, but I didn’t like his debut album too much either, except “Home”. I thought he played it really safe.
desmond-t – Yes, based on the 2 debut singles, Archuleta’s single is better, though nothing spectacular. I’m hoping that Cook releases “Permanent”. That should kick Archuleta’s nuts if he has any.
mysugoi – Yeah, Bo Bice was another disappointment, though I loved his rendition of “Vehicle” with Richie Sambora playing the lead.

David Cook’s new album was on my Christmas Wish List. The good news: I received it. The bad news: I am disappointed. It’s nothing outstanding…mostly full-throttle, with no “Cookie” personality. I’m not sure if I’ll buy another Cook album unless I’ve heard it first.
