A Company of Strangers

Company of Strangers

Strangers are exciting, their mystery never ends. That’s how I felt with the Bloggers’ BBQ overnighter at Port Dirtyson last weekend. It was invigorating to say the least, with each of us bringing different personalities to the table. Indeed, strangers are just friends waiting to happen. :-) 2 nights of brusque slumbers. Being the oldest, I inaugurated the art of fuddling Jack Daniels with GREEN TEA & 100-PLUS as mixers (aka The “ditch coke” crusade). Between us, we had beer, Guinness stout (or black mamba as I affectionately call it or Endroo G‘s take – “G”), Jack Daniel’s and Absolut Vodka.

Spot the BaldyThe BBQ turned out well, and with PD in its usual gimpiness, it was down to a company of strangers to determine on how the junket will pan out. I was surprised to see a birthday cake for me (never a fan of b’day cakes – think it’s way overrated). The mango topping was lovely though I was not fond of the spongecake. We flexed into dweeb-mode thanks to Vicky (the organizer who did an amazing job), with Pictionary. Had a game of Old Maid for old time’s sake, but quickly got uninterested. A few rounds of UNO as well. Looks like we have grown up after all. Except for Lex that is. LOL!

Hongkiat.com & IDay 2 was a homecoming trip for me, back to my descendants’ hometown, Malacca. The jam was horrendous. Only in Malaysia you will see imbeciles tarring the highways on a weekend, that resulted in a traffic snarl worthy of turning one into the Incredible Hulk. Speaking of Hulk, Tihtahpah (recently christened as Carlos) regularly metamorphosed into a martian whenever she downed alcohol. She was a walking Christmas ornament. :-P

Hang BotakWe gallivanted around Jonker Walk, had spiritual intake at the Geographer pub in the heart of Jonker, and then left for some patty joint recommended by our guide, Jason Mumbles. By golly, the vanilla cheesecake was THE best cake I’ve ever savored. Yummy to the tummy. Highly recommended. Hong Kiat (Suzie) and Cely made up the rest of the gang.

Santa Claus RebootedWe ended the night (day 2) at the Portuguese settlement, for Portuguese food accompanied by christmas revellers. Nothing like the Portuguese Catholic community welcoming Christmas. Only a handful of houses were decorated, as I think the rest were waiting for X’mas before unleashing their Christmas decorations. Tis the season to be jolly.

We met as strangers, we left as friends. :-)
