Kota Kinabalu Pine Resort With Mel’s Family
I reserved us a night at the KK Pine Resort, courtesy of Berjaya. In addition to our one night stay @ Promenade on the day of the SBG08, this place, some 2.5 hours away from KK, was a resort to repress, in terms of facilities. But, the morning view of Mount Kinabalu more than made up for it.
We woke up early, and drove to Ranau for breakfast, before heading to Poring (my second trip since December 2006) for the canopy walk that I overlooked during my previous visit there. The walk up was exhausting, but that did not stop Mel’s mom from following us. She’s unbelievably sporting.
I saw 2 wriggly things (20 centimeters long) within inches of each other, one, an earth worm, and the other, a baby snake. Mel’s panic-stricken howler made a landslide in Sandakan. LOL.
I was told by Mel’s brother, Clay Vincent, who works for Borneo Discovery Overland Tours, whom I can recommend to you should you be interested for some tours in KK (he’s a funny guy!), that someone purchased almost 4 acres of land in Lohan (no, not on Lindsay Lohan’s body), for a measly RM10,000. My jaw dropped, and now I WANT to buy a land near the mountains for a retiring investment. I love the cool temperatures.
We gallivanted to Kinabalu Park and then to Fairy’s Garden for lunch (food was bad) before driving back to KK. We were too jaded to continue our planned trip to Kudat the next day, and spent the whole of Wednesday relaxing, and visiting the overrated 1Borneo. 1Borneo is not as what some people claim it to be, it’s nowhere near Midvalley.
By the way, a heads up for Sabahans, if you drive to 1Borneo from Jesselton, you will see 1Borneo signboards leading up to the mall. I noticed a cockup of the signboards. The first signboard will say that 1Borneo is 7km away, followed by (minutes later), a 3km away signboard to 1Borneo. The next signboard, then says that 1Borneo is 5km away! LOL. Someone please inform the relevant authorities to sort that out.

yeah there’s lotsa 1borneo’s signboard everywhere..they scared everyone sasat i think XD
You missed the Tip Of Borneo?????
1Borneo is nothing compared to malls in KL. But at least more brands are coming in, like MAC, Nine West, Crocs. But for me, it’s not worth it lah to drive all the way there just to shop. If I carpool, bulih lah hehe.. Oh and next time, stay at Kinabalu Park itself. Much more expensive, but it’s much nicer.
bah, next time you guys come back here, lets go climb mount kinabalu.
massy But the signs are along a straight road bah, and it’s every couple of kilometers. Perhaps they had a few million left in their budget and decided to spent it on signboards.
wombat I skipped the tip of borneo this time around, was too tired from ranau/poring/kkpark the day before. I’m going there next May.
JACQ 1Borneo, is still quite OK Jacq, in terms of a number of good tenants, but it seems to me it’s becoming a white elephant. Don’t get me started with the color. LOL. Thanks for the KK Park tip, I didn’t know about that.
chegu carol No way! Sia indak suka gunung, gimme the islands anytime!
I too think 1Borneo is over rated – but thats maybe because I don’t have the kind of cash to shop there :-p
And yes, next time try to stay at Kinabalu Park, right at the foothills of Mt. Kinabalu. Kundasang is nowhere as cool as when you’re in the park itself.

Jewelle – I will, Kinabalu Park next. Looks like I can’t make it in May, as Mel will be busy with her KL International Motorsports event, so I’m guessing our visit is pushed back to June/July.
