Confessions of a Former Chilli Freak!
[ad]
Embracing chillies and relishing intense levels of spices has been the norm for me especially in my early years. Whilst the oriental heritage enjoy food enhancers like salt, sugar & MSG, the Indian ethnics prefer spices and chillies to mollycoddle their taste buds.
I used enjoy eating sambal belacan with white rice! Until today, my ultimate favorite dish is the sambal ikan bilis. Yes, I’m a man of zest. I can’t go for long periods (2 days max) without needing spice consumption.

What we extreme spice-loving Malaysians normally consume is the Thai Pepper aka chili pepper or popularly known as the Cili Padi or Cili Api. That has a scale of 100,000 on the Scoville scale. Imagine consuming a chili that is 10 times worst than the cili padi?
Can you do it?! This lady can as she wallops 51 chilies in 2 minutes en route to a new Guinness World Record!
Guinness World Record – 51 Hottest Chilies Consumed in 2 Minutes
That’s a white flag for me. How much do you love your chili? Behold, the world’s most hottest chilli – The Ghost Chili or Naga Jolokia!

Gosh!!! that lady’s heat-bud on her tongue must be damaged!
i love cili padi when u crash it with little bit salt/sugar, put some lime juice and soy sauce and a little bit of crush garlic and onion….walllaaa..sedap..
btw, i cant stand chillies with adding things on it, eating it just like that??i dont think so..
Agreed with Vienne….
I’m also a chilli freak especially during my PMS the amount of chillis are uncountable hehehee…sedap bah tu.
wonder what kind of diarrhoea mediacation she’s on if she’s going to whack chillies like that
The thing I hate about Msia is that they add chillies and/or chilli sauce to everything (except ice cream i think). Why can’t u ppl enjoy the food’s originality? I only add them when I feel it’ll enhance the flavour of the dish or if the dish tastes really really bad… I think I’m being too much of a Nazi here. Hahaha…
Strange as it may seem, I’ve only very recently begun to love chillies. I grew up a pampered brat who had only non spicy food prepared lovingly by my dearly departed grandma and I could never stand chili until a few years back. Now I can’t get enough of it, so much so I make my own concoctions of sambal … LOL!
ever seen people eating cili padi like eating kauci?…
i’m guilty as charged for loving chili, and this happened lately after spending the night at a Punjabi friend’s house where her mother cooked the most delicious spicy food ever. I have never needed chili in my life to enhance food. Now I’ve been hooked ever since.
For me there’s a time for every type of taste. Chilly, Sour, Sweet, Bitter (ugh!), Sour-sweet. I usually love overdoses of pepper for the hot feel
elcynthia – She crazy!
Vienne – I don’t like to mix my chillies, prefer it natural, but of course, depending on food.
Kimora – MmmMmmm…chillies…
philters – I wonder if it was worth, just to appear in the Guinness Book of Records?
Pinknpurplelizard – Boo!
Well, chillies are the spice of life, excuse the pun.
Nick Phillips – Concoctions of sambal? Sounds hot!
swordie – Nope. That would be MAD. You know anyone?
Amanda – Yeah, chili gives you that high.
JL – I don’t like my food to be sweet. But chilli, hell yes!
Have u tried wasabi? I nearly puked when I first tried it.
That is the first and last.
im a cili padi fan as well though i dont eat them raw.
that would mean suicide for me!
cicak – Yeah I do, still eat it moderately whenever I visit Sakae Sushi.
chegu carol – Me neither. Sambal belacan da bomb!
