February 2009 Recommended New Songs

[ad]

These are the songs that I have blogged about at The Gallivantism of Rhythmic Indulgence, where I share brand new songs as well as take you back in time with some of my favorite retro music. If you want to access new songs as fast as I do then be sure to bookmark my music blog.

Ciara feat Young Jeezy – Never Ever
A nicely done remake to that hit, “If You Don’t Know Me By Now”, a song that was also made popular by Simply Red. This song touches about confusion that we all experience while being in love. Love can be really complicated. 8/10

RL (of NEXT) – Bomb
My girl is the bomb! Really catchy hook that RL of Next managed to nail with this bombarding track. Remember the band called Next with a hit called “Too Close” back in the 90s? Well, this is the lead singer who now is trying to move on with a solo career. 7/10

Papa Roach – Lifeline
Their latest album, Metamorphosis, is a stinker. 11 of the 12 tracks were painful to the ears. From the heydays of “Last Resort”, the band struggled to match its success, but did come rather close with 2006’s “Forever”. Apart from this track, the rest are rubbish on their latest album. 7/10

Keri Hilson – Turn Up the Radio
It has a unique hook to the track, so obvious that it’s a Timbaland signature. Her latest album is due on March 2009. I enjoyed listening to her previous effort, “Energy” last year, though the chorus was repeated a tad too much. This one is certainly a number made for the dancefloor. 6/10

Kevin Lyttle – Dangerous
From the same dude who brought you the love it or hate it tune, “Turn Me On” back in 2004. This is soca, dancehall & R&B all rolled into one. It’s a pretty decent track, especially after downing a couple of long island tea at a nightclub. It’s not as good as “Turn Me On” though. 7/10

Trailer Choir – What Would You Say
Although it’s from a country music group called Trailer Choir, it sounds rockier for that genre. They have good complementing melodies though they look like a bunch of hillbilly rednecks. If you dislike country genre because your ego refuses to accept it, give this track a listen. 8/10

Desaparecidos vs Walter Master J – Ibiza
And you thought I never had it in me! It is very rare that I enjoy listening to house music. Generally I find techno/trance genre to be of crap of the crappiest quality. There are however exceptions to the rule. And this is one of them. Great hook. 9/10

Bunkface – Situasi
A Malaysian indie rock band that sounds Indonesian. Unfortunately, that’s a compliment, given the crap that comes from Malaysia vs Indonesian quality. I have to take my hats off to them as the chorus is darn catchy. My only gripe is some use of their words which is rather turgid. 8/10

India.Arie – Long Goodbye
Testimony: Vol. 2, Love & Politics is India.Arie’s fourth studio album. The first song I heard, “Therapy” was pretty OK except it was a little too commercial after listening to it for several times. The album is OK and is the most commercial of her effort to date. Of all the songs, my favorite is this track. Simple yet meaningful. 7/10

DJ Drama feat Akon, Snoop Dogg & T.I. – Day Dreaming
This is arguably my favorite song of the year 2009 so far. Akon has worked his magic again. The bridge, hook and chorus are all home runs. The sad part is that idiot Snoop Dogg lends his useless rap vocals to the tune making it very tepid. T.I. didn’t improve it either. Akon should’ve collaborated with either T-Pain, Ludacris or Flo Rida. It would’ve made this track PERFECT. I would’ve given it a 10/10 if Snoop & T.I. weren’t the guest rappers. 9/10

Coldplay – Life in Technicolor II
Coldplay’s songs are plain boring. You gotta be obtuse to enjoy listening to them, especially the slow tunes. I’d rather watch snails bonk each other. However, their latest effort, seems alright with “Lost” though after listening to it a couple of times I got bored again. This track though I think would’ve been given the justice it deserves had U2 sang it instead of releasing the stupid “Get On Your Boots”. 8/10

Boyzone – Can’t Stop Thinking About You
This song’s beat is suspiciously similar to Sugababes’ Push the Button. And to top it off, I dislike Boyzone. Both Boyzone and Westlife are terrible boy bands. If boy bands are considered the lowest form of music, then these 2 bands are way worst than that. Westlife needs to be shot for plagiarising. Silly song but you Boyzone fans might have other opinion i.e. lame. 3/10

Red – Shadows
I heard the album and it’s pretty OK for a hard rock sounding metal album. The best song on the album is this track that was co-written by the lead singer of my favorite metal band, Breaking Benjamin. I didn’t knew it was co-written until I did my research. No wonder I’m drawn to it. 8/10

Black Eyed Peas – Boom Boom Pow
Black Eyed Peas, arguably one of the best hip hop bands ever is due to release their new album in June 2009. “The E.N.D.” – its first track is called “Boom Boom Pow”. Unfortunately, it’s so tepid that it will leave you wondering if BEP has lost it. It’s not catchy as any of their previous hits. It’s not as crappy but because of the standards they set, it’s lame. 3/10

Rihanna ft The Dream – Hatin on the Club
Excellente! It has reminiscence of the 60s in terms of the melody. This is easily one of Rihanna’s better tracks. The whole thing about it is attention-getting. I recommend this track to be added to your collection of music.9/10

Jennifer Lopez – Hooked on It
You either like J Lo or love to hate her. I think Marc Anthony has been doing a good job compared to her previous failed husbands who can’t contain her ego as well as the size of her arse. I’m not sure about her. I mean, some of her songs are OK but her attitude is full of it. I’m not sure if her latest single is part of her new album. The song is slightly above average, and the chorus, has the love-hate thing going on. I like the chorus until she repeats “Hooked On You” like a broken record. Blech. 7/10
