Scorpions – Sting in the Tail (Album Review)
I tried to give this album a chance, but after bleeding out my ears for a couple of times, I can now officially go on the record to say that Scorpions, are officially has-beens. Their last memorable album for me was in 1993, and since then, there were spurts of songs here and there. However, in the year 2000 onwards, they started their downfall, because they just failed to keep up with the times. The album sounds like a bad Malay rock band would put out in the 80s. I’m sure the Malay rock scene were heavily influenced by the Scorpions.
If I was asked to pick 2 songs from the album, I would pick these 2. The album opener, was a false positive, and it sounded like Scorpions is FINALLY trying to remain relevant, to the point of using the talk box ala Richie Sambora (a device which was first used by Joe Walsh and Peter Frampton in the early 70s). I know some may argue it was used in Scorpions’ The Zoo, but the style of the delivery in this song, is very Sambora-like.
Unfortunately, the this song could’ve been better because it screamed ROCK but ended up sounding a little flat.
“The Best is Yet to Come”, is very average if not for the fact for the drama chorus. Unfortunately, for Scorpions, I’d have to say, “The Best Has Long Since Gone”. Game over dudes. It’s time to retire.
