We are the World 25 for Haiti (Song Review)
This song will surely eclipse Simon Cowell’s Everybody Hurts (Haiti) single, because that REM song is too bloody depressing that it’s morbid. “We are the World”, written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, is in a class of its own.
Here’s the lineup to the remake:
Conductors: Quincy Jones & Lionel Richie
Verses: Justin Bieber, Nicole Scherzinger, Jennifer Hudson, Jennifer Nettles, Josh Groban, Tony Bennett, Mary J. Blige, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Barbra Streisand, Miley Cyrus, Enrique Iglesias, Jamie Foxx, Wyclef Jean, Adam Levine, Pink, BeBe Winans, Usher, Celine Dion, Janet Jackson, Orianthi, Fergie, Nick Jonas, Toni Braxton, Mary Mary, Isaac Slade, Lil Wayne, Carlos Santana, Akon, T-Pain, LL Cool J, Will.i.am, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, Swizz Beatz, Iyaz, Kanye West
Chorus: Patti Austin, Bizzy Bone, Ethan Bortnick, Jeff Bridges, Zac Brown, Brandy, Kristian Bush, Natalie Cole, Harry Connick Jr., Hayden Panettiere, Kid Cudi, Faith Evans, Melanie Fiona, Sean Garrett, Tyrese Gibson, Anthony Hamilton, Keri Hilson, Julianne Hough, India.Arie, Randy Jackson, Taj Jackson, Taryll Jackson, TJ Jackson, Al Jardine, Jimmy Jean-Louis, Ralph Johnson, Joe Jonas, Jordin Sparks, Kevin Jonas, Gladys Knight, Benji Madden, Harlow Madden, Joel Madden, Katharine McPhee, Jason Mraz, Mýa, Freda Payne, A. R. Rahman, Nicole Richie, Raphael Saadiq, Trey Songz, Musiq Soulchild, Robin Thicke, Alex Williams, Rob Thomas, Vince Vaughn, Verdine White, Ann Wilson, Brian Wilson, Nancy Wilson, Nipsey Hussle, Fonzworth Bentley
It’s a brilliant touch by Quincy and Lionel to keep Michael Jackson’s participation in it, by infusing the 1985 footage of the original song into this track. Janet Jackson duets with her brother in the video recording. This is a MUST have song because the rapping, although at the beginning, sounded odd, but then I immediately grew into it as this version is a little more uplifting than its original.

love the song!
wenn –
that sure is one brilliant effort!!
i actually think this song is a little overdone. don’t get me wrong, i adore the rap part and wyclef jean was just so awesome here, but it did not grow on me immediately. pop + hip hop + rap + carlos santana and lil wayne in the same breath was just a little too much. but after some time, it gets better. and then baru boleh appreciate the take.
mat kolej – Indeed.
philters – Fair enough, maybe the overload of artists was a tad too much, but I still think it was a cracking effort.
