Disrespectful Upbringing of Children

Who are we to shoot? Obviously not the children, because monkey see monkey do. WTF is wrong with parents these days? There is a fine line between being a kiasu parent and a moron. I’ve seen many children developing the asshole syndrome. When I see their parents, I can see how the asshole syndrome is passed on to their kids. Take a look at this disturbing photo.

If that was my daughter, I would’ve questioned what went wrong. I’m guessing, she picked it up from her buddies or from the idiot box. Either way, I may not catch this, but once a child develops this trait, it won’t be long before she shows it to her parents, out of anger. That’s when I’ll reprimand her, and not buy her shoes with rolling wheels and then threaten to confiscate her TV time for 1 hour. WTF.
What would you do if you see a child behaving like this? She may not know that it’s wrong. What would you do? Imagine if you see the parents, and try to tell them nicely, they’d probably be too anal to listen, and you might suffer the same fate as this old lady in the photo. That’s when you take out your golf stick, and chase them back to Singapore!
Geez. WTF is wrong with society these days? Asian culture my ass!
Another thing, to those parents (who have 35 children – cause they hump like rabbits thanks to Government benefits), please keep an eye on your children, and don’t let them wander off. It’s your responsibility. Perhaps we should erect this sign at shopping places like Tesco, Mydin and Pasar Malam. Bollocks.

Of late I am beginning to find myself have less and less patience for adults.. with kids. My church service is such that after the mass, we all lepak for coffee and so forth. And the kids with their grubby fingers start banging on the drums and the piano and yelling into the mics. Now, it is one thing to muck about, but another to damage public property! And worst of all, the noise!!!! And none of the parents are bothered to stop them! Sometimes I wish I can smack the parents!
Then when I was in UK – a 10 year old was doodling naked pictures of women in his book. The teacher complained to the mom about it, but the next day, the dad came and said he wanted it removed from the child’s record that parents were called in for a discussion. Reason, he wants to send his son to some fancy smancy private school, and that record would damage his chances. WTH!? Forget the fact that your 10 year old son has a problem, lets send the idiot to a private school so he can get worst!
There should be an IQ test before ppl should be allowed to procreate!
PS… on that note, if you haven’t please go watch Idiocracy.. shows the effects of stoopid ppl procreating.
It’s a reflection of the parents. Parents assholes = children assholes too! Sad but that’s the way of life these days. But that doesn’t mean I condone crap like this. If that was my son he wouldn’t be able to use that finger for atleast a week!

i can only say that i am completely taken-aback and appalled by her gesture and manner. i spend a lot of time with my kids to make sure they are well-mannered…and to imagine then doing the same thing the girl is doing in the picture. i will slap them to hell and back@!! as long as they remain my kids, HAVE MANNERS! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!

Yup cannot blame the children… Like at my workplace, it’s not weird why is the boss’s son always uses foul language… My boss and the wife themselves always uses foul language in the office scolding people!!

As a mom myself, can I just say that I pray EVERY day that my kids don’t turn out like this… Can I just point out though that kids are really different than our generation? I like to think that I am a concerned parent who puts good manners above everything else (I would make my kids pay for even THINKING of sticking their finger at ppl) but there is no way I would presume that my kids are definitely going to turn out OK… I just don’t know! Blaming the parents is the time-honoured tradition in these sort of issues – but can I present a question… Would we, as bystanders, do any sort of repriminding of the child? Did the photographer of this pic do anything after the shot was taken? An Asian upbringing used to subscribe to the philosophy of “It takes a village….” but now that we have traded villages for the city – we (and that includes me) decide to dump the responsibility of raising children to the immediate parents… Something which seems… I don’t know…. wrong…?

There are just so many corrupting factors out there… MTV is always ready to ‘teach’ our kids a thing or two… the violence and sex in cartoons and games is ever escalating…. you’ll be surprise what young kids talk about in Bas Sekolah and when they chat over online games these days!
But if the rot comes from the parents… then habis cerita la, what else is there to say?

2nd of all, kids these days don’t have the discipline we ppl have. Most of them are spoil brats if you ask me. *sigh. What will the future become *sigh T_T
I tell you, if I had seen that, I would have smacked that kid into next week. It’s got less to do with their teachers or the people outside – it starts at home.
If you don’t have the time to teach your children that, simple – don’t have kids! Seriously, I don’t understand this nonsense about people assuming that ‘someone else’ will teach their children proper values.

marsha – Correct. The early ages are vital for parents to instill manners in their children, so they don’t grow up to be assholes of society and then continue the trend with their own children.
IRTeA – Yes, that photo is a painful sight. Your boss’s son uses foul language? Both parents need to be smacked, or even better, stuff fowl down their throats.
cubex – Yabah, either parents or their peers. Whatever it is, parents NEED to control their kids at an early age, LIMITED idiot box time, LIMITED computer time, MORE reading and learning.
jppmom – I’m more angry than sad. I’m sad for the old lady in the photo, but angry with how this girl could get away with it. Or even worse, I suspect the photographer gave her sweets to do it.
Robina – Yeah, all moms want their children to be good people to society. Good manners is IMPORTANT. I’m not sure if we, as outsiders, reprimand that kid. She could either give US the same treatment, or shout for help, giving the public the wrong impression.
Center Parted – That photo is apparently real. You’re right about MTV. Even Nickelodeon is rubbish. Parents NEED to control the remote. The problem also stems from technology. Children are aging older, and some, have puberty before they turn 12, and some, white hair by the age of 16!
desmond-t – You’re right, everyone should shoulder the responsibility. Unfortunately, with competition amongst peers continue to build, it would be a really difficult task. Charity begins at home.

I’m bald by choice by the way. You’re right about being bratty. I dislike seeing a 6 year old getting whatever he wants, even a freaking PS3! Ridiculous! Technology will change society into a lazy bunch.

usually when other parents are being advised by a total stranger, they would surely be insulted. no matter how good your intentions are. it’s like yeah so what if im a bad parent but this is my responsibility and you don’t have the right to tell me anything. quite sad but, it’s nature. it’s true everything comes from how you are brought at home. if you’re parents like to swear like ozzy osbourne does then your brood would highly likely swear at home. then after wards comes the relatives and peers and teachers. unless the parents are just busy 24/7 and only the maid sj yg take care. so, probably kurang kasih sayang.
i think love is really important in the child’s upbringing. if the child is well loved, they will learn to love other things. that picture shows abandonment, anger and needing approve from social peers. really sad though. sipak jak haha….
That picture brings lots of things into question and as a parent to 4 children I know first hand as any parent does that every child you have is completely different and although they may all be parented the same they can still turn out all completely different. You bust your butt day and night bringing home the message to your kids about right from wrong and yet they still stuff up, and that is part of our lesson in life really hopefully to learn by our mistakes. The trouble is in our society these days, EMPATHY is the biggest missing factor and without raising your Children to have the ability to put themselves in someones elses shoes they have no way of drawing on their compassion and conducting themselves in the right manner.
My 6 year old Daughter came home from a Catholic school the other day to tell me a Kindergarten child which would be age 4 was holding up the rude finger to her and her friends. How seriously sad must some of these home lives be that a child that age sees it fit to conduct that sort of behaviour. I am with you all on the disbelief of what our society is turning into. Parenting is hard, tedious, and not so fun at times but it is our duty of care as parents to drive these messages home to these kids to have Empathy, respect others and other peoples property and most of all give them LOVE and stability in their home lives otherwise the society for the future will not be too bright.

i think it has mostly to do with the parents. i like to study how people behave in relation to their parents and i can say that they are mostly mirrored. the freudian theory is a fine one but i think it might also have to do with genetics.well there are many factors.
i think parents should not only tell but be examples of how to be.

sarah – Of course they will feel insulted. It bruises the ego. But, if they are wise enough, they will reprimand the child no matter what. You’re right about the need for love. But having said that, even a well loved child doesn’t guarantee manners.
Tracey Bower – Agreed, parenting is certainly not easy, even worst when there are outside factors that easily influences a child at that tender age. You’re right on empathy as well, and it IS our duty to our children to guide them.
