High Octane Petrol to Reduce Subsidies?
I’m sure most of us Malaysian have read this drollery of a newspaper story, about the government deliberating to introduce higher octane number or RON for petrol. The Domestic Trade & Consumer Affairs Minister, who announced this (MO)RON sentiment, said that it will help the lower and medium income groups?
So, being exceedingly smart, they believe that “luxury” income groups would opt for RON99 as it’s more “powderful”. Fuyo! How on earth did we end up voting for these people? Who were their rivals in the last general election, proboscis monkeys?
I read somewhere that they were “advised” by F1 super-duper-luxury car maker Proton about this. Wow, I didn’t know that a Proton Perdana is a luxury car. A spokesperson for BMW mentioned that this (MO)RON change will not affect their line of flyspeck cars.
Why not remove the petrol subsidy and abolish car taxes too? The Malaysian government loves to get the local news to show a comparison chart in Asia that we are the cheapest in the region. Wow, really? Gee, then I guess we are lucky! What they conveniently forgot to note is our import duties + excise duties + sales tax + Rafidah’s duit raya.
Please – you have collected, in advance, the petrol subsidy from us through these taxes (and then some!). If they only use 5% of their brains instead of sending a coconut to space, they would’ve commanded the respect of the public.

Have you read my post?

hahaha…interesting..read about this also in the news.how do we differentiate luxury and ‘normal’ cars?these mo(ron)s really have nothing to do in their office that’s y..
nice post..
i wish they juz take out car tax
And to think that I thought the previous Domestic Trade Minister is clueless enough but this new one sure beat him hands down. Does he really think that most rich people actually buy luxury cars and SUVs for the performance? It’s all for show. Asal gaya ada, mati tidak apa. So this new DTM actually think they will opt for the RON99? They will almost all buy the RON95, and to hell with the performance as long as they can show off their cars and SUVs. So why the fook should my taxes go towards subsidizing RON95 for these cheapskates?
Clueless to the nth degree I’d say.
Hasbullah bin Pit I now did.
ezooone Differentiating between luxury and ordinary is irrelevant. It’s how do they stop luxury cars from using the cheaper (MO)RON?
Yoshi They should, it would help alleviate subsidy issues for the rakyat.
Wombat I totally agree, I didn’t realize that we voted Homer as the minister – long live duff beer! Woohoo!
