How Do You Know if a Chicken is Malay?
[ad]
Do you like your chicken Malay and salted? I laughed out loud when I saw this sign at a local Chinese restaurant in Subang Jaya. A plethora of thoughts fowled my mind. I heard of Kampung chicken but Malay chicken? I smell something fishy poultry.
I guess maybe they wanted to be more specific as not all kampung chickens are Malays. Maybe, it has been exposed to the customs and culture of the Malay society. The chicken is put through rigorous tests like mastering the dangdut (Dangdut Chicken – now that’s a sell!) or just sleeping on the job (an ode to our Prime Minister). It might even be taught pantuns at its early age and then have its featherbrained wit tested with sepak takraw.
Here’s another food for thought, what happens if you remove the word “chicken” from that dish?
Imagine the waiter asking you, “Do you want the 1/4 Salted Malay or 1 Whole Malay Sir?. Please remember that additional portions to be charged extra.” How fowl.

hey dude… where is the restaurant?
^__^
LOL! Maybe they have chickens that take up Yoga, you know
Yeah, where is this restaurant?

emelda’s last blog post..Yoga deviate Muslims from their belief??
It probably means the chicken is cooked in Malay style.
I wonder what they’re trying to say LOL omg so funny
XD
*laugh till fall from my chair*

chegu carol’s last blog post..Will I be like her
Miahahah! Eh, what actually this Malay chicken lar? Halal arr? Miahahahaha! Malay chicken at Lorong Haji Taib or what? Hahahaha!
Anyway, if I would be a MALAY chicken, I’d be a very delicious honey coated, tender and juicy chickennnnn…
I’ve had a few of them on my time. Not quite Malay chicken, but closer to Malay “Duck” (those who know cantonese slang know what I am talking about).
After the debacle of renaming Jalan Alor (Jalan Kejora, or Venus Street), I think Lorong Haji Taib should be renamed, bearing in mind its unsavoury reputation. How about…..
Lorong Mahathir.
After an urban renewal project of course
Haha! I heard Chinese people referring to kampung chicken as Malay chicken. But probably on the menu, it should be written as just Kampung chicken. But I will try the dangdut chicken, if there’s one! Surely more healthy as the chicken exercise a lot by dancing dangdut, right? LOL

CoFFeeFreak – Subang SS14.
Food sucks bigtime though!
Nick Phillips – Yoga and chicken, I can see the next big animation from Disney. It’s in your neighborhood Nick.
emelda – They play dangdut music while servicing you, hmmm, what type of chicken are those? LOL
decypher – And how is that? Slaughtered the right way?
massy – I’ve no idea, but I just had to blog about it.
kaDusMama –
johnny ong – Ya man, it is!
xin – Puck puck puck!
|1f34|-|1r3 – I think so too, but then again, on the upper menu, it clearly states Kampung Chicken. This one, could actually mean humans. LOL. Pimp undercover selling chicken rice! LOL
chegu carol – Kadazan chicken? Do they put on the traditional costume and dance the sumazau?
Faiez – My thoughts too, different type of chicken! How fowl!
Diarmuid – Sounds like a quacker! I disagree with Lorong Haji Taib being renamed to Lorong Mahathir. How about Lorong Lingam? That way, if you’re caught, you can say, “it sounds like me, it looks like me…”. Perfecto!
foongpc – I know about that too dude, but the conundrum is, the earlier section of the menu states Kampung chicken! Dangdut chicken sounds like something dodgy, but I guess your right on the healthy part, the question is, what chicken?
I want more chix…hahahha
First time i heard of this dish in a menu..kampung chicken…biasa sudah.
Thanks for sharing this with us…very enlightening..:)
U have a great weekend ahead…cheers.
OMG!!!!! That’s like…like….yeah, got Chinese Chicken or not? Or Indian Chickens or not? Hhhmmm….

Aj – Pucker up…
Nightwing – Thanks, you too amigo!
marsha – Doesn’t sound right does it? Maybe some pimp doing undercover food business in Subang supplying “chickens” from the Jalan formerly known as Alor then Kejora now back to Alor.
hahahahha – its a usual term la for “Kampung Chicken” …
i think its a common term for describing free-range chickens as well
there is also other free-range chicken in cantonese like – “moustache chicken” and “castrated chicken”
not sure wtf they go and castrate the chicken for … but dont be surprise to be charge up RM200 for a “ball-less” chicken … hahaha

earl-ku – The funny thing is, the above sections on the same menu, it stated Kampung chicken. Maybe this one different chicken la…maybe not all Kampung chickens are Malays…
actually it’s literally translated from chinese words. In chinese we call it malai kai, malai means malay. which actually is kampung chicken. But it’s directly translated, so becomes malay chicken.
so, why do chinese call kampung chicken as malai kai ar?
Jennyhow’s last blog post..Guide on Wholesale Party Supplies (Part 2)
Jennyhow – The weird part is, the top part of the menu, it states Kampung Chicken, and the bottom shows Malay Chicken. Maybe not all Kampung Chickens are Malays?
