American Burgers
My dad used to own a fastfood restaurant in Penang. I think it was some place called/near Chai Leng park. He was a top student with his university in America (fully paid scholarship). He had the papers, but because Malaysia was a third world country, his papers weren’t accredited. He has a degree in Hotel Management. Appearing in a full single page focused on him (his thoughts) at the first few pages of his university yearbook was a feather in the cap.
Unfortunately, I guess he missed Malaysia so much, that he decided to come back home, managed an A&W branch (the one in near Globe Silk Store) and subsequently met my mom. He saved enough moolah to open up a fastfood restaurant called AMERICAN BURGERS, circa 1981 and 1983. I can vaguely remember how jam-packed it was back then, as most of the dishes were concocted by my dad himself.
Just when we thought that life’s about to turn for the better, his brothers came along. They were a rowdy bunch of boozers whom my dad has a huge soft spot for. They ruined it by causing a ruckus and borrowing money and never repaid. I will not forget seeing them gambling on 4D number on the day my dad died, where the coffin was just metres away. But I was too young to punch their lights out. Who needs relatives, eh?

yo, bro. Chai Leng Park is in Perai la. There’s a very very nice prawn mee joint in that area too.
geeezzz…. forgot to clear the cache… why tihtahpah appeared?! Supposed to be endroo G.
apa ni…
this is the REAL tihtahpah….
maybe in your case your relatives were crap..but then again, it feels better when you bury the hatchet..nobody wants to carry the baggage of hate with them forever.
I agree with Tihtahpah… we can choose our friends but unfortunately we can choose our relatives….
i meant to say you cant choose your relative…. #rool eyes#
fake tihtahpah Chai Leng Park = Perai = PENANG.
endroo G ….
real tihtahpah I have not forgiven nor forgotten. Sorry, all that talk about forgiving and forgetting is just bullshit.
Mo I know what you mean, I wish we could choose….
Agree with Dan 100% – forgiveness only when there’s true remorse and a design for immediate and irreversible change. Forget never – I’m a big believer in accountability, discipline and respect.
I got one scoundrel in my family too, who time and again (for years now) has chosen the path of idiocy and irresponsibility. The others in my family have forgiven numerous faults; I remain resolute… like Dan the Man.
used to live in chain ferry road some time ago. a fren wanted to open a small bzness in chai leng park area n the broker brought her there. b4 the deal finished negotiation, a local self claimed gangster came to intro himself said he was the local representative. alls plans abandoned hahahaah
OH MY GOD!!! What a bunch of bastards!!!! I know exactly what you mean though…i keep telling my mum that we should be as far as possible from our relatives. So thankfully most of them have moved to PJ while we are the only ones left in Klang.
Was this in Bangsar? There was a fast food joint there called American Fastfood in the early 80s, way before Bangsar turned into the monstrosity it is today.
Wombat No no, it was in Penang.
