Malaysian Kuih Muih
I love kuihs. Always been a sucker for them, especially kuihs ladened with coconut. Kuih Kaswi (Kosui), Pulut Inti, Buah Melaka (Onde Onde), Lepat Pisang and Kuih Dadar. Thanks to my not-too-distant Peranakan relations of Gajah Berang Melaka, 2 generations ago.
My mom easily makes these kuihs whenever she feels like it, and of course, me being the faithful son that I am, always gobble it up like there’s no tomorrow. Authentic pastries like these are hard to find these days.
What’s your favorite nyonya/traditional kuih? Or you only like your scummy durians?
I love dodol and wajit too.

i like kuih talam and kuih kaya, if that’s the correct name. and of course, those hot from the oven egg tarts. considered as kuih also right?
Hmm…maybe lepat pisang but frankly, I don’t eat traditional kuih/snacks much. I eat the big2 one more, like lemang, nasi himpit, laksa and ketupat all.
for kuih traditional, i’m into onde2 melaka.. made it myself, i can go and make a really big onde2 melaka of my preference..eheheee..
there are some other kuih muih which i also like, but i dont know their name la..hahaa… i eat whatever yummy.. but too sweet is a turnoff for my tongue and tummy though… ngam ngam cukup la…
now who’s blogging bout food (with pictures)?
wan yean Oh yes, that egg tart kuih, my ex-gf’s mom used to make ‘em for me during Hari Raya. LOVELY.
Chapree Da Grande Alamak, tu bukan kuih.
priscilla Excellent, another reason for me to visit KK again. Hehehe!
endroo G Dude, these are not my pics, and it’s not a review of food. It’s what I love to eat. It’s not the same as the other lame blogs who blog about what they eat everytime they go out – they need to get a life.
oh man..i love kuah’s…i so miss malaysia now…..the green pancakes with the coconut i love and the round green balls withthe sweet centre..what they call??
hmmmmmm

*hUngRYy*
Good traditional kuihs are hard to come by these days. Lucky you that your mom makes them! I like Kuih Koci (the purple ones not the green/white ones) and onde-onde and kuih lapis and kuih keria and….. *wipes drool off face*
I have no particular favourites. I love ‘em all!
Your pics looks so great. My all time favourite are ondeh ondeh, pulut inti, kuih kosoi and ketayap. Anything that contain milk coconut and gula melaka are yummy. Your blog is great, my dear.
darn u cant be a msian without liking kuih ;p – but im very bad with the names I normally know which one I like by look ;p
kuih lapis, puthu piring, karipap, dodol (so hard to get a good one now), wajit (mom makes excellent wajit n kuih lapis)
oh I like that green one u put up there, then there’s this dark brown one like kuih lapis but without the lapis, n the pandan one, n theres that fluffy spongy one
so did anyone figure out any of it? Hehehe don’t think anyone did – sorryla bad with names ;p
ohh and u know the chinese baked biscuit like kuihs? with lotus seed paste – i think ones called wife biscuit – that i love
I love them all! Everything with coconut! Love them. Man, can’t for the Bulan Puasa time. Sure lots this kuehs. Great shots.
yah lah puasa time is when the best kuihs are found…. The Puasa market at kelana jaya (Near the small Giant)is the bom when it come to kuih..
Mr D Those are onde onde or buah melaka.
huei Definitely!
Paris Beaverbanks Amen to Kuih Koci too. Yes, I’m lucky to have a mom that could easily make any of those kuih. Apparently, she was the main cook in her family of 9.
JACQ OLE!
Erina Law Thanks. I love variety. You have exact taste as me when it comes to kuihs.
visithra Well, it took me a while for the names. LOL. Yes, finding the perfect dodol is difficult these days, but the best to me, will always be the dodol from Malacca. The rest of the states simply suck in making it. Hehehehe!
papajoneh Excellent taste.
I can hardly wait for Ramadhan either. Wanna try to outdo my previous fasting record. Brouhahaha!
Mo Good kuihs are hard to find eh? Where’s the nearest kampung from our office besides Damansara Perdana? Hahahaha!
yum
Mine’s the green green long long wan in the photos. What’s it called?
clement Amen.
Wombat Kuih Gulung aka Kuih Dadar aka Kuih Ketayap I think.
Segambut Dalam…??!!!???
woooo…weeee…. delicious stuff. I like the smell of the coconut and the pandan leadf from it. It was best attempt with kopi!! I only eat a few slice…eat too much will make me…errr…
u have any idea where in melaka? ;p need info asap n i dont want durian dodol – just plain old dodol ;p
Mo Goodness, we’ll just stick w Kampung Damansara Perdana then.
Fattien Horizontally challenged? Yes, pandan leaves, coconut and brown sugar does wonders.
visithra Errr, the stalls in between AFamosa and the whatchamacallit Mall’s not too bad. No, dodol and durian MUST never mix.
Aiyo u terrible fella la you….now i feel like goin out and looking for some kuih muih! I’m bloody drooling at my table la.
I love the ones with coconut too..
oh yes should never mix but no one gets it! thanks
sabrina Hahaha! Selamat berbuka puasa.
visithra If given a choice, I would love to see durians where they belong, flushed down the toilet. Hehehehe!
Dude.. my mouth is watering! Yeah.. love those nyonya, malay kuih.. but my personal favourite would be ‘apam balik’. Well, you can still find these cakes around, and they look nice too… but the truth and sad part is…it DOESN’T taste as good as those days.
DJ Pinto Oh yes, apam balik’s delicious too. And you’re right, nothing taste as good as those days. *SIGH*
does anyone know the REAL history of kuih kaswi? i need this for my assignment
farah Wish I could help but I’ve no idea.
