My 5th Guitar in 16 Years
[ad]
I’ve been wanting to buy myself a new acoustic pickup guitar since the beginning of 2009. I scoured the net for the best prices and brand. The most cheapest guitar cost no less than RM500. I have the money to spend, but would the end justify the means? I wasn’t sure.
With 3 confirmed holidays this year and 2 in planning, I decided against it to save money. Sabah (Sipadan/Sandakan/KK) for 2 weeks, followed by Krabi and then Bali at the end of the year, would sure put a dent in my savings, but it would be worth every dent. I love holidays, and for as long as I shall live, I will make it a point to do travel (outside of Malaysia) at least twice a year.
However, the decision of putting off buying a new acoustic pickup guitar swiftly changed when I visited Cash Converters over the weekend. It didn’t matter that the brand was unknown, and that it was made in China. It’s new, it works and it’s cheap – RM190.

The neck is narrower than my current guitar, and it’s much smaller in size. I have to get use of bringing my fingers closer together to strum. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come with a guitar bag but that will soon change.
I’m now seriously contemplating of selling my previous guitar that I bought for almost RM600 at Bentley’s Music in KL in 2001/02 at Cash Converters to get myself a guitar amplifier from the same place that would set me back by RM180.

I miss playing the guitar, and especially composing songs. These days, I hardly have any time to sit down and write a new song. It looks like my current library compositions of over 50 will not be expanding anytime soon.

Awwh, I used to think guys that play music is hot, well I still do but since they tend to be heart breakers, I stayed away from them and landed myself a geek instead, lol!
Anyways… you should compose a song for Mel, maybe sing it at your wedding, it sure gonna be an awwwhhh factor!
U going to Bali at the end of the year? I hate you!!! I so want to go when I’m coming back in Sept… maybe I will, hmmm.
ooo ooo… no wonder mel is attracted to you…..
wow…guitar~~!! it is my dream to learn guitar, but as you said, RM500, I need to think twice… plus my life is so busy, will I learn half way then kabut? hhahaha! Keep up the music and traveling.. that’s the colour of life!!!
Whoa, RM190 for a decent looking acoustic pickup guitar is a great bargain!
I really wish I can buy a guitar (electric) for my hubby and I’m sure he will be very happy to have it since he has been dreaming bout it for quite some time.. ;p
I saw this guitar also at the cash converter. I didn’t test it though. How is it? Is it good enough? The pickup, sound and everything? The details finishing was quite rough. If it’s good, I’m thinking of buying one.
Were you self thought? I bought a guitar almost 2 years ago and still ahven’t been able to play any proper song on it. I might need to go for classes!
*thought = taught. Sorry
whaaaaaaaat? rm190 for that baby??? I want one too! Okay, how do i get one?
Faiez – I am planning to compose for Mel, but to get the PERFECT song is not easy. Pressure! Yup, me going to Bali. How long will you be back for, if you have the time, we could meet up, the 4 of us.
bosscat – No la, she didn’t know that I could play the guitar, and used to be able to sing til age caught up. LOL!
Michi – You need to be committed that’s for sure. I picked it up myself back in 1993.
cicak – It is indeed a bargain!
Just – Electric guitar? Don’t bother, stick to acoustic. Electric is no fun when you’re going at it alone.
guong – For the price, it’s good enough. And yes, the finishing is rough, but you get what you pay for. Give it a try there. I asked the guy to remove it from the stand, and plug it into the amp and tested the sound. I was OK with it.
TerraShield – Yeah, I picked it up myself. To start off, just learn 4 chords, and then build from there – G, D, Em, C. You’ll be surprised just how many songs you can play with those 4 chords.
Daphne – Cash Converters, check it out.
