The Ultimate Malaysian Childhood Games
Galah Panjang
What do Galah Panjang, Konda Kondi and Batang Aiskrim have in common? Me. Those were my favorite games during my primary school years. Apparently, I’ve been told recently that the Icecream Stick games were played using the mouth. Guess my school were a tad smarter than the rest. We used our hands to conjure a down force wind to lift the sticks. 
Galah Panjang was my favorite, followed closely by Konda Kondi. I would also like to stake claim to a game I hatched in SMSSAAS (Sekolah Initial Terpanjang) during Form 1 when I was the class monitor. Knocking each other’s pen’s off the table. PEN. Don’t get any dirty ideas. Yes, I was that bored. Floating class (Kelas Terapung), our fixed location was the bengkel, and teachers always seemed to give our class a miss. That’s why I turned out this way. 
I wonder what school kids play these days? Computer games? Pity.
What was your favorite childhood game?

– the paper triangle soccer/rugby game
– polis sentri / kejar-kejar
– tiang-tiang
– pepsi-cola (the one where we take turns to step on our opponent’s feet)
– baling selipar (there’s a lot of variations for this one.)
– chapping – a variation of baling selipar, but this time a tennis ball is used, and no need to do the pyramid
Lizzam I used to play the games you have listed too. And yes, I am extremely familiar with “chapping”. We used to wet the tennis ball to give it more oomph, and then head off to class with bumps and bruises.

we had a more wonderful childhood compared to computer-clad kids today

Oh yeah I remember main getah. “zero poieennnt”.
How can you forget guli (they had guli pasir, Nestum and the behemoth of all gulis – ball-bearing).
Also those statistic card games (bikes, cars, ships, war tanks). What are those called?
- BOTTLE CAPS (school team)
- konda kondi
- half-filled coke bottle as the ball for football (20+ ppl aside)
- tennis ball for football (20+ ppl aside)
- teng teng (hopscotch)
- guli petak and guli lari (marbles)
- ice cream stick (with hands..of course)
tihtahpah I think every older generation will claim that their younger years were the best.
Che-Cheh Uno, monopoly? I didn’t play those during primary school, we were more into outdoor stuff.
Even with batang aiskrim, we made it a point to play at the corridors. 
Broken Starfish I attempted the getah, but have not managed to grasp the art of jumping up and down til I was old enough to club.
Keropok I played guli before starting primary school. Oh yes! I LOVE those card games! Fuel consumption, CC and everything! Any idea where we could buy those cards?
endroo G We quickly got bored of bottle caps and started playing corridor football with A single bottle cap. That was fun!

Mine would be punching the lights out of the poor kid one class below me.
Seriously, my fave childhood game was marbles. Which also explains why I love snooker and pool when I grow up and Steve Davis is my hero.
The Rubber (Eraser) game! Not to be confused with raba. Not sure how to explain it though,we had to defeat the opponents eraser by uhm,overlapping it. Sigh,it’s relatively a very easy game to play,but you need to have “skills”.

Definitely the pen and rubber game lol… and we even played football in the corridors with paper balls… one end to the other… Damn, I miss my school days… Like lahh it was sooo long ago
That’s my old school game too. Really miss those days, now days most of the kids don’t know what is that, they can’t even know how to make fly kite, don’t know how to play tops, guli… and many more.
kejar-kejar, bottle caps, eraser… got some i know how to play but dunno whats the name of the game, hahhha… i missed those days la…

Lawan pen. Popular weapon of choice were Kilometrico and Stabilo “orange colour body with blue colored cap” pens. Hohohohoh!
