Songs When I Turned 18

For the record, I detest doing tags, but I sing a different tune when that tag orbits around music.

So, Paris Beaverbanks, yes, I’ll do this tag for “you”. And ConanCat too. Here is a list of songs that were nostalgically seraphic during the year I turned 18.

I was only 2 years into my guitar playing days that year, and with 3 other classmates from Stamford College PJ, we headed for PD with a guitar on my back. We jammed at the beach until the late hours, playing for almost 3 hours, covering these songs in the process:

When I Come Around – Green Day
New Age Girl – Dead Eye Dick
Good – Better Than Ezra
Misery – Soul Asylum
Can’t Stop Lovin’ You – Van Halen
Buddy Holly – Weezer

And was introduced to the following songs while clubbing at a famous PJ nightclub called DV8:

Sexual Healing – Max-A-Million
Keep Their Heads Ringin’, Dr. Dre

Of course, the year wouldn’t have been complete without that ultimate line, “and he’ll see me as a person, not just a black man”:

I Believe – Blessid Union Of Souls

MaximillionAnd who can ever forget, the year Bon Jovi rocked Shah Alam Stadium – 4th May, the same year they released THESE DAYS – producing a love ballad that comfortably sat at the top of the local TV Metrovision charts – This Ain’t A Love Song. Yes, the one Lakisha (American Idol) covered.

For you young ones, I’d like to share with you, Max-a-Million’s red-hot tune, Sexual Healing, a Marvin Gaye cover that is still played in clubs. The other songs will be shared in due course. ;-)

And no, I won’t tag anyone, I wanna keep this tag all to myself. Brouhahahaha! Somebody stop me!
