A Man Named Belafonte

Harry Belafonte on Sesame StreetHarry. Harry Belafonte. The King of Calypso music, popularizing the genre back in the 50s. Some of you may remember him by his signature song, “Day-O, Banana Boat Song”. I remember him by his other classic tunes too, “Matilda”, “Angelina”, “Island in the Sun”, “There’s a Hole in My Bucket”, “Coconut Woman” and the FIRST song I played with my guitar, “Jamaica Farewell”. This song never fails to leave me smiling.

It’s about the beauties of the West Indian Islands. Apparently the lyrics for the song were written in 1926. A 90-year old tune. :-P
