The Asian Way of Taking The Elevators
There is a reason why there are two arrows on elevator doors, one pointing up and the other pointing down. You go down when the down arrow light goes off, and vice versa.
But some people have taken into riding the elevator the opposite direction of where they intend to go. Why? Well, they are afraid that the elevator will be full picking up passengers from upper floors that there will be no more space for them.
Is this a Malaysian thing?

Huh? I have never tried such thing before. =/
Here’s what I look at how ppl take the elevators. They rush in and rush out. *sweat. I dun get it.
Should invent a button system where the more frequently they press, the faster the lift comes. This will be for those ugly Msians who have the ‘urge’ to constantly press the button continuously till the lift comes.
Or maybe have one of those lift systems designed for Jews on the Sabbath – Automatic with no buttons coz it stops at every floor.
LOL
i do the very same thing … as my floor is on the 24th, and from 26 onwards to 29 are all occupied by this one company, if you wait for the lift to go up and come back down to my floor it will be packed by then …
so we take it up and come back down at times … or avoid going out at peak hours …
i get so irritated when i saw them doing that. and sometime they keep pressing the button as if the button have built in accelerator. sheesshh..
haha..never did this oo..shall I? it could be fun..hehe..
Obviously, people who do that are the ones who think that if they don’t do it, they’ll be missing something… and people who do this obviously have time on their hand.. but think they don’t!
But I hate those who goes into a lift and press ALL the buttons just so it stops at all floor. Whether it’s a kid or someone with a brain of one, it irritates the hell out of me.. And when I shot them the look, they’d grin like it’s something funny! Some people!
Yeah, when you actually follow the arrows, you get left behind. I had that experience when we went to an eating place in Kuching once. My friends and I were stuck outside the elevator forever while people kept going up and down. Finally, we all being young and health conscious people… we figured it wouldn’t kill us climbing 4 flights of stairs!
i almost wanted to blog about the same thing.. worst.. there’re ppl going at the ‘opp direction’ (and feeling kiasu) but yet before I could get in the fast fast push the close button.. wth… Maybe for them pushing the button up means asking the elevator to come up :p
tekkaus – I have to admit, I did it once at Sunway Pyramid while waiting for the elevators, it went up and down a few times. Yeah, just embracing my Malaysianism, or is it Kiasunism?
massy – Yeah, but slow down in everything else, maybe claustrophobic?
Pinknpurplelizard – Really, I haven’t heard about the Jew elevator. If they had those in Malaysia, every Friday you’ll see some elevators getting blown up. Hahahaha!
earl-ku – Makes sense. It starts with that and then we “adopt” that approach. I have become very conscious of that.
LaViaP The Geek – LOL, well, to be fair, some elevators, when you press and hold the button, it skips the floors in between.
wel – Go, try and let me know.
Mimi – Oh yes, the ones that presses all floors, needs to be smacked sideways and be named Suzy!
terrashield – Wow, a positive approach instead of a kiasu one. Well done!
jc – Oh yes, we call them assholes.
OOOOOOOPS. i am a malaysian sometimes then… LOL esp at 5.30pm the peak hour to go home
Kiasu mah. We always call our Singaporean counterpart kiasus, but we also sameeeee hahahaha!
xin – Hmmm, guess we are all. We follow Singapore.
Faiez – Yup, our neighbor has given us Malaysians a nasty effect.
I’ve done that once..haha..
Linda – I think we’ve all done it once at least.
